Sam Houston Looking for First Conference Win

The Sam Houston Bearkats picked up their third win in four games with a 60-point victory a few days after Christmas. Sam Houston improved to 8-4 on the year but is currently winless in conference play with a 0-1 record. Sam Houston was in complete control of their last game, breaking a 2-2 tie with a 7-0 run as the Bearkats never looked back. Sam Houston remained in power for the entirety of the first half, carrying a 38-point lead into the break. Sam Houston extended the lead in the second half, 20 minutes, 58-36, resulting in the 60-point victory.

The Bearkats shot 56% from the floor in their last outing and knocked down 12 of 30 from beyond the arc. Sam Houston was clearly the better team defensively, allowing 57 points on 28% shooting, and the Bearkats won the rebounding battle by 41. Western Kentucky fell to 7-5 on the year with its loss to Jacksonville State and is currently winless in conference play, at 0-1. Against Jacksonville State, Western Kentucky struggled from the tip as the Gamecocks outscored the Hilltoppers 38- 22 in the first half of play. Western Kentucky bounced back in the second half, winning the final 20 minutes 45-40, but the first-half deficit proved insurmountable.
