South Carolina vs. Northwestern Pick and Preview
Spread Pick for South Carolina vs. Northwestern
- Wildcats cover spread (4 Units)
These programs play a similar style, but the Wildcats perform it at a higher level. They shoot over 40 percent from three, force more turnovers (16.1% opponent TO%), and take better care of the basketball (14th nationally in TOs per game). The Gamecocks trailed from start to finish in their opening round matchup of this tournament, while Northwestern battled from end to end against a solid Virginia squad. The Wildcats shoot a much higher field goal percentage than their opponent, and will score enough both inside the arc and beyond it to cover the spread on Sunday in West Virginia.
Over/Under Pick for South Carolina vs. Northwestern
- Under (5 Units)
The Wildcats and Gamecocks play a similarly slow tempo, ranking 280th and 283rd in schedule-adjusted pace, per KenPom. The Wildcats also play sound defense, ranking in the top 25 in opponent field goal percentage and top 75 in opponent three-point percentage. The latter will be especially impactful against a South Carolina squad that attempts a high volume of three-balls (49.5% 3PT rate), ranking 31st nationally. The Wildcats will also poke away a fair share of loose balls on defense, turning the Gamecocks over at least 15 times. These teams will play competitively in the first half before Northwestern pulls away to win, but neither team will dominate on the scoreboard. Bet on the under!
