Marshall has been the much better team recently and has played well on both ends of the court in Sun Belt play, leading me to believe they will win by double digits on Wednesday. The Herd has shot 38 percent from beyond the arc in conference play, while the Eagles have struggled to defend the perimeter, ranking 13th (out of 14 teams) in opponent 3PT%. That isn't new, either, as they rank outside the top 300 nationally in three-point defense for the season. On top of this, Marshall is tough to defend around the rim, ranking 28th in near-proximity percentage vs. the average opponent, per Haslametrics.
The Eagles have also hit very few three-balls on offense, as they have connected on just 27.8 percent of their treys in Sun Belt competition. I'm concerned they will fall behind early and find it challenging to climb back into the game, as they don't do much well offensively other than get to the free-throw line. With a comfortable lead, the Herd will play more relaxed defensively, sagging off the Eagles and allowing them to take jump shots instead.
