UCF Seeks Third Win of Season

The UCF Knights are targeting win number three on the season. UCF is playing in its first road game. The squad opened the season with an 82-78 home win against Hofstra, but didnโ€™t cover. Next, UCF had a tough opponent and was charged with a 105-93 home loss by Vanderbilt of the SEC. UCF countered with a 97-60 home win against Florida A&M on Tuesday to cover the huge 23-point spread. They shot 55% in the win. The Knights have covered the spread in one of three games on the season.

Riley Kugel is in for a big season. The senior guard was a key player for Mississippi State of the SEC last year, posting 9 PPG. Kugel has been a beast so far, sinking 19 or more points in two of three games and is averaging 20 PPG on 50% shooting. He scored 16 points in the win on Tuesday. Chris Johnson played for Stephen F. Austin last year. The junior guard did not play in the opener and has scored 20 points in two games.

JaMichael Stillwell played in the Horizon League last season and is hoping his game thrives in the BIG 12. The senior forward scored six points on Tuesday and is averaging 10.3 PPG and 5.3 RPG. Jordan Burks played for Georgetown last season. The junior forward has reported an average of 12 PPG on a 50% efficiency. Devon Cambridge has spent seasons playing with Auburn and Texas Tech. The senior has netted 9 PPG.

The Knights are ranked 79th in DI in Ken Pomeroyโ€™s ratings and were voted to finish in 14th place in the BIG 12 preseason poll chosen by the media. UCF is averaging 91 points after three games, marking them 151st. UCF is shooting 51.7% while opponents are shooting 45.9% against the Knights. They are conceding an average of 81 points, placing them 215th.

Texas A&M Dealt First Defeat

The Texas A&M Aggies are attempting to answer after their first defeat. Texas A&M opened the season with a blowout 98-68 home win against Northwestern State. They earned a 104-70 win against Texas Southern in their second game, also at home. Next, the Aggies were hit with an 87-63 road loss by Oklahoma State of the Big 12 on Tuesday. The shooting was off, connecting on 32% of their attempts. They were marked as 2.5-point favorites in that one. The Aggies have covered the spread in two of three games.

Ruben Dominguez has scored nine or more points in all three games. The sophomore guard only shot 37% against Oklahoma State and is averaging 12.3 PPG. Rashaun Agee is in his first season with the Aggies. He was a big contributor for USC last season. The senior forward has recorded an average of 11.7 PPG and has shot above 60% in two of his three games

Rylan Griffin is another new player. He has been a threat. The senior guard is averaging 11 PPG on 50% shooting. Marcus Hill is a key transfer. The senior guard was one of the best players at NC State in the ACC last season. Hill has been mediocre so far, reporting 11 PPG on 40% shooting. Josh Holloway has been solid, yielding 10.3 PPG. Pop Isaacs was a huge scorer for Creighton last season, but has been kept in check. The junior guard is averaging 7.3 PPG.

The Aggies are ranked 46th in the country in Ken Pomeroyโ€™s ratings. They were selected to finish 13th in the SEC preseason poll, voted by the media. Texas A&M is scoring an average of 88.3 points on the season, marking them 175th. They are shooting 45.4% while opponents are shooting 46.2% against them. The Aggies have conceded an average of 75 points, placing them 169th.

UCF vs. Texas A&M Pick

Spread Pick for UCF vs. Texas A&M

  • UCF Knights +10 (5 units)

The UCF Knights have won two of three games this season. The defeat was against Vanderbilt of the SEC. The Texas A&M Aggies have also dropped one of their first three games this season, and it was ugly. They were pelted by 24 points against Oklahoma State this past weekend. They are expected to be near the bottom of the SEC standings.

Furthermore, UCF has the offense to win this game. They are only averaging 0.2 fewer points per 100 possessions than Texas A&M and have the better field goal efficiency. Also, UCF is in a groove from deep, connecting on 53.6% of their threes. The Aggies are ranked 170th in three-point defense. Defensively, the Knights have been shaky, but so have the Aggies.

Over/Under Pick for UCF vs. Texas A&M

  • Over 168 (5 units)

I expect a barrage of scoring in this one. The UCF offense has been a threat. They scored 93 points against Vanderbilt of the SEC and 97 points in the win on Tuesday. The Aggies' defense has been shaky. They surrendered 87 points against Oklahoma State. UCF has connected on 51.7% of its shots.

In addition, Texas A&M will shoot a ton of threes, averaging 32 three-point attempts per game. This is key when considering the Knights are pegged at 179th in the country in three-point defense. These squads play at a quick pace, standing at about 60-65th in the country out of 365 teams in adjusted tempo. The over is a convincing 5-1 in the Aggiesโ€™ previous games.
