UCF is on the Bubble
The UCF Knights are right in the middle of the Big 12 Conference, but the strength of the league will potentially allow them to advance to the Big Dance. UCF is currently projected to be a 10-seed in Bracketology, as the Big 12 is projected to get seven teams into the NCAA Tournament. The Knights will want to finish strong, as they still have five more games to improve their projected seed before the conference tournament.
In their last game, UCF was led by Jordan Burks with 23 points and seven rebounds in their win over TCU. Burks is part of their balanced attack which features four players scoring over 12.0 PPG, but none over 14.0 PPG. Burks is a 6'9 junior forward scoring 13.0 PPG and grabbing 4.4 RPG in his first season with the team since transferring over from Georgetown. Burks is a post player, but is also their top outside shooter with 46 made threes on the year. Their top scorer is Riley Kugel, the 6'5 senior guard made stops at Florida and Mississippi State in his college journey, and is averaging 14.0 PPG this season to lead the Knights. Themus Fulks is a 6'2 senior guard bringing another 13.6 PPG to go with 6.8 APG.
UCF is currently ranked 48th out of 365 Division I teams according to KenPom. They are 35th in offensive efficiency and only 113th in defensive efficiency. They play relatively quick, ranking 86th in the nation in pace of play.

Utes are Near the Bottom
The Utah Utes have been a proud basketball program that has sent several players to the NBA, and have been in multiple NCAA Tournaments over the past few years, but this has not been their year. They are currently tied at the bottom of the conference with a 2-11 record, and no realistic shot of a tournament berth without winning the Big 12 Tournament. In their last game, they were led by Seydou Traore with 17 points and six rebounds in their win over West Virginia.
Traore is an athletic 6'6 junior forward who has travelled across the country to find a college basketball home. He began his career with Manhattan as a freshman, then transferred to Iowa before coming over to Utah as a junior. Traore is fourth on the team in scoring with 9.6 PPG as a physical presence on the wing. Their top scorer is Terrence Brown, he spent two seasons with Fairleigh Dickinson before coming to the Big 12 to lead Utah with 20.2 PPG as an athletic guard. Don McHenry is their top outside shooter, he is a 6'2 senior scoring 17.3 PPG to go with his 65 made three pointers.
Utah is ranked 112th overall according to KenPom. They are 92nd in offensive efficiency and 171st in defensive efficiency. They play slower than the Knights, ranking 196th in pace of play.

UCF vs. Utah Picks and Predictions
Spread pick for UCF vs. Utah
- UCF -1.5 (5 units)
This line should is too favorable for the Knights, as Utah is in a tailspin of a season, and will lose momentum late against teams still competing for their tournament lives. When analyzing the KenPom rankings, Utah is behind Utah State and even Utah Valley, this is not the same Utah team from years' past. The Utes tried to bring in some high scorers from smaller schools, but the talent has not delivered and they are stuck at the bottom of the Big 12. UCF is still in the running for an at-large bid, and will get a win here.
Take UCF to win and cover.
Over/Under Pick for UCF vs. Utah
- Over 156.5 (4 units)
Both of these teams rank far better on the offensive side of the ball than they do on the defensive side, which will result in a high scoring game. Utah is only ranked 171st in defensive efficiency, by far the worst unit in this game, so they will struggle to get stops here against a more talented UCF offense. The Knights are 35th in offensive efficiency, so scoring will not be a problem, but they are only 113th in defensive efficiency as they rely on their high scoring guards. There will be far more offense than defense here.
Take the over.
