UNLV vs Colorado State picks are on the board Friday night as the Rebels head to Fort Collins for a Mountain West showdown that profiles very differently than last season’s meetings. With both programs breaking in new head coaches and the betting market already reacting to pace and efficiency concerns, this matchup has become a prime spot for bettors searching for value in their college basketball picks.

Key Matchups and Handicap

Colorado State won and covered both meetings last season, but this is a very different setup with new leadership on both sidelines. Josh Pastner’s return to coaching has been rocky in Las Vegas, and UNLV enters this game at 7-7 with some head-scratching losses already on the resume. Tuesday’s loss at Wyoming was especially concerning, as the Rebels allowed 98 points and 1.36 points per possession.

Even so, this is not an ideal spot for Colorado State to create margin. Ali Farokhmanesh has implemented one of the slowest tempos in the country in his first year at the helm, which naturally suppresses scoring and limits possessions. That pace is a big reason early money has shown on the under, and I agree with that direction.

Colorado State is still shooting 41.1 percent from three-point range on the season, but that efficiency has cooled over the past few weeks, contributing to a 1-3 start in Mountain West play. UNLV’s defensive flaws are real, but the Rams’ methodical approach makes it difficult to turn defensive mistakes into quick runs.

On the other end, UNLV’s offensive limitations also point toward a lower-scoring game. The Rebels shoot just 29.3 percent from three, and Colorado State’s defense allows a high volume of perimeter attempts. That is not a great matchup for UNLV to capitalize. If this game stays close late, free throws could matter, and UNLV ranks near the bottom nationally at 66.3 percent from the line.

  • Five of UNLV’s last six games have stayed under the total.
  • Colorado State is 1-3 in Mountain West play despite top-five three-point shooting on the season.
  • Last season’s two meetings averaged just 130.0 total points.

Key Injuries and Notes (UNLV and CSU)

  • No major injuries were noted for either team heading into this matchup.
  • UNLV is playing the second game of a difficult road back-to-back.

ATS and Total Picks

  • Against the Spread: UNLV +6.5
  • Over Under: Under 148.5

Final Score Prediction

Colorado State controls the tempo and does just enough offensively to win, but the slow pace keeps this game well below the posted total.

How to Bet

This matchup is best approached by focusing on tempo and efficiency rather than raw scoring averages. Slower-paced teams like Colorado State often create value on unders, especially against opponents struggling to shoot from deep.
