Rebels can make a statement
UNLV is the home team in this Festival/Tournament. They are also the underdog. In their last game before the Player Era Festival, they beat Saint Joseph's 99-85 on Nov. 20. Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn led six players in double digits with 20 points, adding eight boards.
Sophomore Jacob Barnabie, a 6-9, 235-pound forward from Alaska, added 12 points and 11 rebounds with four assists against the Hawks. He's averaging 7.8 points and 5.6 rebounds. UNLV has won two straight over the Hawks and Memphis (92-78) as they were a 9.5-point dog against the Tigesr. That came after a 102-93 loss at home to Montana as a 10-point favorite. They also opened the season with an 86-81 defeat at home against Tennessee-Martin as a 17-point favorite.
Injuries have been an issue as Ladji Dembele (6-8, 255) has missed the last two games with a foot injury. The Iowa transfer is averaging 7.8 points and five rebounds in the first three games. UC Irvine transfer Myles Che, who averaged 12.3 points last season with the Anteaters, is also out with a foot injury.
The Rebels are ranked 99th overall according to KenPom and is 65th in Adjusted Offensive Efficiency and 171st in Adjusted Defensive Rating.
Key Injuries for UNLV:
- F Ladji Dembele (foot) is doubtful.
'Bama can score some points
Alabama is 3-1 this season and 7th in Adjusted Offensive Rating according to KenPom and sixth in pace of play. The Crimson Tide lost to Purdue 87-80 on Nov. 13 as Aden Holloway scored 20 points to lead the Tide. Purdue was paced by All-American guard Braden Smith (29pts). The Boilermakers held the Tide ot just 42% shooting from the field.
'Bama bounced back with a 90-86 win from Chicago's United Center over Illinois on Nov. 19. Labaron Philon led the Crimson Tide with 24 points and five assists, Alabama shot 45% from the field and 36% (13-36) from beyond the arc.
Philon leads the Tide with 20.5 points per game, 5.8 assists and shooots 53.2% from the field. Holloway, who has played three of their four games, averages 17.7 points per game and 3.3 assists. Alabama shoots 47.2% from the field and is struggling from beyond the arc (33.8%).
Spread Pick for Alabama vs. UNLV
UNLV vs. Alabama Pick and Prediction
- UNLV +13 (4 units)
This is a good Alabama team, but they aren't great-yet. Defensively, Alabama is allowing teams to shoot 44.3% from the field and 34.4% from long range. Their defense has always had some holes under Nate Oats. UNLV has the talent to make this a close game and they aren't traveling to be here. The home crowd should help them compete in this game.
Total Pick for UNLV vs. Alabama
- Over 180.5 (4 units)
This sounds like a huge total, but it's not when you get an Alabama team capable of putting up 100 points with their pace. Alabama also played Saint Joe's and scored 103 on them on Nov. 8. UNLV has gone over in five straight games before Monday night's result.
