Trojans unbeaten
The USC Trojans have started the season with a perfect 7-0 record, including an impressive showing at the Maui Invitational, where they defeated Boise State by three, Seton Hall by two, and Arizona State 88-75 in three games over three days.
The Trojans loaded up with talent from the transfer portal and are led by Rodney Rice and Chad Baker-Mazar, who both average 20.3 points per game, with Jacob Cofie contributing 9.7 points, and team-highs with 7.6 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per contest. Ezra Ausar is third in scoring on the team with 17.4 ppg but leads the way shooting just under 70% from the floor, giving USC a well-rounded offensive attack.
USC ranks 26th in KenPom ratings, coming in 24th in adjusted offensive efficiency, 47th in defensive efficiency, and 74th in tempo.
The Trojans are averaging nearly 92 points per game while holding opponents to 77.6. Their seven-game winning streak is backed by consistent shooting from the field (49%) and strong defensive contributions, including 7.4 blocks per game.
Ducks looking to snap losing streak
The Oregon Ducks enter this matchup with a 4-3 record, coming off a challenging stretch at the Player’s Era Festival in Las Vegas, where they lost three straight games by double digits to Auburn, San Diego State, and Creighton. Before the losing streak picked up narrow victories over Hawaii and Rice, and also took down South Dakota State and Oregon State. Against USC, the Ducks will be looking for a resume'-boosting win that will look good for the committee at the end of the season.
Oregon is ranked 86th in KenPom, with adjusted offensive efficiency at 96th and defensive efficiency at 90th, while playing at a solid tempo (160th). The Ducks average just 73.7 points per game while allowing 74.7, with solid rebounding, ranking 47th with 40.1 per game. Leading the way is the 7-foot big man Nate Bittle (16.3 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 2.3 bpg)
USC Trojans at Oregon Ducks Predictions
USC vs Oregon ATS Pick:
-
USC -1.5 (5 units)
Oregon has won and covered the number in the last five head-to-head meetings, but I expect a different result on Tuesday. USC is much more talented than last season, and this is a great opportunity for them to flex their balance, depth, and offensive firepower. The Ducks’ will have the home-court advantage, but I don't see it as being enough.
The Trojans’ can score in transition, and from inside or from three-point range. Led by a trio of Rice, Baker-Mazara, and Ausar, USC should overcome Oregon’s slower tempo and inconsistent offense. Oregon has struggled defensively against high-powered teams, and USC’s versatility will test their depth and athleticism. Expect USC to cover the light spread.
USC vs Oregon Total Pick:
-
Under 156.5 (5 units)
With this being the first Big Ten game of the season, expect both teams to come out with a defensive focus. Oregon will lean on its home-court advantage and should be desperate to snap its three-game losing streak. The Ducks will try to slow the game down and make it ugly, as they do not want to get into a track meet with USC. As for USC, even with their offensive firepower, I expect a sluggish start in a tough road environment.
Last season, these teams combined for only 128 points and 143 points in their two meetings.
I’m going with the under here.
