USF Eyes Third Straight Win

The USF Bulls are seeking their third straight win on Wednesday. USF has enjoyed an easier schedule so far. They lost by a 99-95 score to George Washington in their first defeat, but have answered by winning two straight games. They issued a 100-50 home win against Coppin State last week and earned a 108-89 road win against Kennesaw State on Sunday in a meeting that had the Bulls marked as seven-point favorites. USF connected on 50% of its shots and kept the Owls to a 39% mark in that one. The Bulls have covered the spread in three of four games.

Josh Omojafo was key in the win against G.W., sinking 33 points. The senior guard was a big scorer for Robert Morris last year and is averaging 19.8 PPG this season. Joseph Pinion netted 24 points in the win against Coppin State, boosting his season numbers. The senior guard is averaging 16 PPG  on the year, but is only shooting 37%.

Izaiya Nelson has been steady, sinking 50% of his shots in all four games and already has two double-doubles. The senior forward is averaging 15.5 PPG and 10.3 RPG. CJ Brown has displayed progress compared to last season. He scored 10 points in the win on Sunday. The sophomore guard has an average of 12 PPG.  Wes Enis has scored double digits in three of four games. The junior guard has recorded an average of 12.3 PPG.

The Bulls are ranked 79th in DI in Ken Pomeroy’s ratings and were voted to finish second in the AAC preseason poll voted by coaches. USF is averaging 101.3 points on the season, ranking them 82nd. They are shooting 47.9%. The Bulls are keeping opponents to a 40.5% mark. The Bulls are conceding an average of 76.3 points, placing them 155th.

Oklahoma State Remains Undefeated on Season

The Oklahoma State Cowboys are attempting to keep their undefeated record intact. OK State has played three easier games and had a challenge against Texas A&M last week, and came away with a dominating home win. They were 2.5-point dogs in that one. They also beat Prairie View and netted an 85-69 home win against Texas A&M-CC on Sunday in a meeting that had them as big 19.5-point favorites. Oklahoma State connected on 50% of its shots while keeping them to a 35% mark. The  Cowboys have covered in two of four games on the season

Vyctorius Miller is a dominant player and could be one of the best in the BIG 12. The sophomore guard scored 21 in the opener and 30 points against Prairie View. Miller is sporting an average of 19.8  PPG. Anthony Roy averaged 25 PPG in 11 games last year. The senior guard made his season debut in the win on Sunday, netting 15 points.

Christian Coleman averaged 11.6 PPG last season. He has reached 15 points in two of four games. The senior guard is posting 11.5 PPG and 5 RPG. Jaylen Curry amassed 12 points against Texas A&M. He has not played the past two games. The junior guard has yielded 12.5 PPG. Ryan Crotty plays off the bench. The freshman scored five points on Sunday and is averaging 6.3 PPG.

The Cowboys are rated 55th in the country in Ken Pomeroy’s ratings and were selected to finish 12th in the Big 12 preseason poll chosen by coaches.  Oklahoma State is averaging 90.3 points on the year, marking them 165th. They are shooting 46.8%. The defense has been outstanding. Teams are only shooting 35.5% against the Cowboys. They are conceding an average of 67.5 points, placing them 65th.

Spread Pick for USF vs. Oklahoma State

  • USF Bulls +4.5 (5 units)

The South Florida Bulls are having a promising opening few weeks of the year. USF has won three of its four games on the season. Their only defeat was by four points. The OK State Cowboys are also thriving, but it’s been a rather easy schedule. They have only played one tough opponent so far. Oklahoma State ranks 326th in strength of schedule on Ken Pomeroy’s ratings.

Furthermore, South Florida has the scoring punch to stay in this game and even win it. They are averaging 1.3 more points per 100 possessions than Oklahoma State, according to Ken Pomeroy’s ratings. Defensively, the Bulls are only conceding five more points per 100. Also, Oklahoma State is stumbling from deep, shooting a weak 29% from three-point range. It will be tough to break out, considering the Bulls are keeping opponents to a 26% mark from beyond the arc.

Over/Under Pick for USF vs. Oklahoma State

  • Over 177 (5 units)

I expect a ton of scoring. This is a big total and for good reason. USF wins games with its scoring punch. They are shooting a solid 47.9% on the season and have scored 95 or more points in each game this season, including 95 points in the defeat against George Washington.

In addition, these squads play at a quick pace. USF stands 16th in the entire country in adjusted tempo, and Oklahoma State is even quicker at sixth in adjusted tempo. OK State has reached 90 points in two of its past four games.  The Bulls give up points due to their pace, including 99 points against George Washington, who was their toughest opponent so far.
