UTEP hopes to avoid its fourth straight loss
The UTEP Miners (3-5; 1-4 ATS; 1-4 O/U) have only won one of their previous six games overall. After snapping a two-game skid with an 84-83 overtime victory against St. Thomas (TX), the Miners have dropped consecutive games against William & Mary 74-63, UAB 75-59, and Seattle U 75-68.
UTEP is coming off Sunday’s road loss at Seattle U. The Redhawks went 10-for-23 from downtown, whereas the Miners hit just five of their 19 shots from beyond the arc. Senior forward Jamal West Jr. led the way for UTEP with 21 points and 14 rebounds, while junior forward Elijah Jones had 18 points.
Jones averages 14.5 points and 4.1 rebounds, and West Jr. tallies 13.3 points and 5.6 boards per game. The Miners score just 101.2 points per 100 possessions (278th in the country) and surrender 106.6 points in return (159th).
Hawaii shoots for its sixth straight W
The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors (9-2; 4-5 ATS; 2-7 O/U) have done a great job this season and are undefeated in five straight outings. During that stretch, the Rainbow Warriors have beaten Hawaii Pacific 88-76, North Dakota 92-55, UC Davis 75-69, Cal State Fullerton 69-59, and Hawaii Hilo 98-46.
Last Wednesday, the Warriors cruised past the Division II Hawaii Hilo. They committed just six turnovers while making 50.7% of their field goals (13-for-35 from deep). Senior forward Harry Rouhliadeff led the charge with 16 points, nine rebounds, and five assists.
Senior center Isaac Johnson is the team’s leading scorer with 13.9 points per game, while senior guard Quandre Bullock averages 12.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. Hawaii tallies 105.9 points per 100 possessions (198th in the country) and allows 98.1 points in return (31st).
UTEP vs. Hawaii Pick
Spread Pick for UTEP vs. Hawaii
- Hawaii -12.5 (5 units)
The Miners have yet to beat a Division I team in 2025-26. Their offense has been pretty bad this season, and the Miners rank 278th in the country in effective field goal percentage (44.8%). Moreover, the Miners are one of the worst rebounding teams in the country. I think they will struggle to cope with Hawaii.
The Rainbow Warriors are turnover-prone, but their defense has been outstanding thus far. Hawaii is seventh in opposing 3-point percentage (26.4%), ninth in opposing 2-point percentage (42.9%), and third in defensive rebound percentage (77.3%). I expect the Warriors to beat the Miners and cover the spread.
Over/Under Pick for UTEP vs. Hawaii
- Under 135.5 (5 units)
The Warriors register 70.9 possessions per 40 minutes (80th in the country), but they turn the ball over on 20.6% of their possessions (317th). On the other side, the Miners record 66.9 possessions per 40 minutes (261st). They are 276th in turnover percentage (19.4%) and 17th in defensive turnover percentage (22.1%).
So, the Miners are good at forcing turnovers, but they are pretty much awful in everything else. Should the Warriors’ defense continue to impress, the Miners will be in big trouble. I don’t expect a high-scoring affair. The under is 4-1 in UTEP’s last five games overall, and it is 6-1 in Hawaii’s previous seven.
