Roadrunners Facing Uphill Battle

UTSA comes into this contest with a 5-21 overall record and just a 1-13 mark in AAC play. It has been a tough season for the Roadrunners, particularly in conference action. They have gone 1-4 over their last five games, recently losing 60-52 to FAU, 88-72 at ECU, 81-58 against UNT, and 109-88 at USF. Their lone win during that stretch came in an 88-79 road victory at CLT. The inconsistency on both ends of the floor has made it difficult for UTSA to compete with the upper tier of the conference.

Offensively, UTSA averages 68.9 points per game while allowing 79.8, a nearly 11-point differential that highlights its struggles. The Roadrunners shoot just 40% from the field, one of the lower marks in the league. They do average 36.6 rebounds per game, which shows effort on the glass, but they convert those possessions into just 10.8 assists per contest, reflecting limited offensive flow.

One of the few bright spots for UTSA has been its defensive activity around the rim and in passing lanes. The Roadrunners average 4.3 blocks and 6.8 steals per game, indicating they can generate some disruption. However, when a team is consistently allowing nearly 80 points per game, it’s clear that defensive breakdowns and scoring droughts have been costly. Against a high-powered Tulsa offense, that margin for error shrinks even further.

Golden Hurricane Aiming to Bounce Back

Tulsa enters this matchup at 21-6 overall and 9-5 in AAC play, positioning itself firmly in the upper half of the conference standings. The Golden Hurricane have gone 2-3 in their last five games, recently defeating CLT 79-74 and FAU 78-76. However, they suffered losses to WICH (81-77), UAB (68-63), and USF (80-74). Despite the recent uneven stretch, Tulsa remains one of the most explosive offensive teams in the conference.

Tulsa averages an impressive 85.4 points per game while allowing 73.0. They shoot 48% from the field and pull down 37.9 rebounds per contest. The Golden Hurricane also average 15.1 assists per game, showing strong ball movement and offensive cohesion.

What truly separates Tulsa is its scoring depth and ability to push tempo. When they get out in transition, they can quickly build double-digit leads. Although they average just 2.4 blocks per game, they are active defensively with 6.3 steals per contest. Against a struggling UTSA team, Tulsa’s offensive efficiency could lead to extended scoring runs that put this game out of reach early.

UTSA vs Tulsa Pick

UTSA vs Tulsa Spread Pick

  • Pick: Tulsa -22.5

This is a large number, but the gap between these two teams is significant. Tulsa’s offense averages over 85 points per game, while UTSA has struggled to keep opponents under 80. With Tulsa playing at home and looking to solidify its conference standing, I expect the Golden Hurricane to dictate pace and pull away in the second half. The Roadrunners’ scoring limitations make it difficult to envision them staying within striking distance.

UTSA vs Tulsa Total Pick

  • Pick: Over 158.5

I’m leaning toward the over in this matchup. Tulsa’s high-scoring profile combined with UTSA’s defensive struggles points toward a game played at an accelerated pace. Even if UTSA doesn’t score efficiently, Tulsa could push this total close on its own. I expect a fast tempo and plenty of transition points in this AAC clash.
