Losing streak continues
At some point, UTSA will break out of this year-long slump. The Roadrunners fell at East Carolina in their last game on Wednesday, 88-72 as a 10.5-point dog. Daniel Akitoby led UTSA with season highs of 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Brent Moss added 15 points. The Roadrunners shot just 37% overall and hit just 8 of 16 at the free-throw line, while ECU shot 46% from the field.
Part of the problem has been injuries. Macaleab Rich is out for the season with a groin injury and averaged 8.1 points in just 15 minutes per game. Dorian Hayes (8.4 ppg) has missed the last three games and is questionable with an undisclosed injury. Guard Austin Nunez (9.8ppg) also missed the ECU game and is questionable. Jamir Simspon leads the Roadrunners with 15.9 points on 40% shooting and is the only player averaging in double figures.
According to KenPom, the Roadrunners rank 348th overall, 342nd in Adjusted Offensive Efficiency and 338th in Adjusted Defense. They also rank 346th in total rebounding percentage.

Charlotte looking for a top seed
Charlotte (164th in Net Rankings) will need to win the AAC Tournament to make the Big Dance. Even if they had defeated Wichita State and Memphis (both losses) to continue a six-game winning streak (it was four), they still needed to win the conference tournament. They are 0-2 in Quad 1 games and 0-4 in Quad 2 games. In their loss at Memphis last Sunday, they were crushed 77-54 as a 9.5-point dog. Arden Conyers led the 49ers with 14 points, while Dezayne Mingo added 12 points, but also committed six of the team's 15 turnovers.
Charlotte has had sturggled with turnovers and it shows in their assist-to-turnover ratio (1.022), which ranks 260th in the nation. Ben Bradford leads the 49ers with 12.6 points while shooting 45% from the field. Anton Bonke adds 10.3 points and 8.0 rebounds.
Charlotte ranks 176th overall on KenPom, 111th in Adjusted Offensive Efficiency Rating and 274th in Adjusted Defense. They also rank 97th in total rebounding percentage.
Spread Pick and Prediction for UTSA vs. Charlotte
UTSA vs. Charlotte Odds and Picks
- Charlotte -15.5 (5 units)
This is a terrible UTSA team that has lost four straight and 11 of their last 12 games by double digits. Charlotte had covered four straight before losing two straight on the road. At home, the 49ers are shooting 47% from the field and 38% from three-point range. UTSA is awful on defense, especially on the road, where they are allowing opponents to shoot 48.2% from the field and 36% from three-point range. In the first meeting, Charlotte outrebounded UTSA by 16 and that's something they will take advantage of once again.
Over/Under Pick for UTSA vs. Charlotte
- Under 147.5 (4 units)
Charlotte wants to slow the pace down as they rank 351st in Adjusted Tempo. They have gone under in two straight and are allowing 73.5 points per game overall. UTSA is averaging just 68.8 points per game to rank 340th. The injuries have caught up with the Roadrunners, who do not have enough offensive firepower to threaten Charlotte.
