At the same time, the VCU offense did not shoot that well at 39% overall and 30% from three-point land, but well enough to win handily. VCU owned the boards as well, grabbing 47 to South Florida’s 39. VCU had 16 offensive boards, giving the Rams plenty of second looks to offset below-average shooting.
The leading scorer for VCU was Lazar Djokovic with 20 points, including 11-for-18 at the charity stripe. Terence Hill Jr was second in scoring with 15 off the bench, and Nyk Lewis scored 11 points. Barry Evans grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Rams, and Jadrian Tracey had a team-high three assists. Before Wednesday's victory, VCU was scoring an average of 87.6 points per game on 46.7% shooting overall and 35.3% from 3-point land.
