VCU vs. George Mason Spread Pick

  • VCU -1.5 (4 units)

George Mason has a pretty record at 15-1 but they aren’t overly battle tested at this point of the year. The Patriots have played just one game against a foe ranked in the top 100 of the KenPom rankings and that was an 11-point loss at Virginia Tech December 6. That marks their lone blemish on the year but they now face a VCU squad that enters this one ranked 45th in the KenPom rankings. The Rams have five losses but they came to teams ranked in the top 53 of the KenPom rankings. VCU also whipped that Virginia Tech team that beat George Mason, 86-68, on a neutral floor November 28 and they also downed South Florida. Look for VCU’s experience and battle tested rotation to earn the win.

VCU vs. George Mason Over/Under Pick

  • Under 147.5 (4 units)

VCU is very stout on the defensive end and the metrics bear that out. The Rams are 57th in defensive efficiency, 82nd in effective field goal percentage defense (48.4%), 127th in forced turnover percentage (18.2%), 147th in field goal percentage defense (42.9%), 48th in two-point defense (46.5%) and 277th in three-point defense (35%) on the year. They are an above average team in terms of tempo, ranking 78th with an average of 70.2 possessions a night. The Rams have seen the over post a 9-7 mark in their 16 games on the year. George Mason has seen the under post an 8-7 mark in their 15 contests so far this season. The Patriots are 47th in the nation in effective field goal percentage defense (47.1%), 50th in field goal percentage (40.3%) and 51st in two-point defense (46.6%) this season. They are more pedestrian defending the perimeter, ranking 244th in threes allowed per game (8.2) and 140th in three-point defense (32.2%) on the year. George Mason plays at a slow pace as they are 310th in terms of adjusted pace with an average of 65.6 possessions a game. With the Patriots good at slowing the pace, this game gets slowed down and that leaves it short of the total.
