Villanova Extends Winning Streak with Easy Home Win

The Villanova Wildcats head into their biggest challenge of the season with confidence. They have won six games in a row. They dropped the season opener against a ranked BYU squad and have been dominant since, but it has been a rather easy schedule. Villanova beat Old Dominion late last month, along with a 74-56 home win against Temple. Next, the Wildcats posted a 90-63 home win against Pennsylvania on Saturday in a clash that had the Wildcats as 19-point favorites. They shot 55% in the win while keeping the Quakers to a 41% mark. The Wildcats have covered the spread in three of their past five games.

Bryce Lindsay has been inconsistent recently, but he is a big scoring threat. The sophomore guard has reached 20 points in three games this season and has delivered an average of 18.1 PPG. Acaden Lewis has shot above 50% in three of his past five games. The freshman guard scored nine points on Saturday and has recorded an average of 12.8 PPG on 52.8 % shooting.

Tyler Perkins has been outstanding, sinking 19 or more points in two of his last three games. The junior guard has issued an average of 11.4 PPG and 5 RPG on the season. Matt Hodge scored 12 points in the win on Saturday. The freshman forward has contributed with 11.3 PPG. Duke Brennan is hard to contain underneath the basket. The senior center scored 15 points with 10 boards on Saturday and has reported 10.5 PPG and 13 RPG.

The Wildcats are ranked 35th in DI in Ken Pomeroy’s ratings. They have only played in one true road game in a 70-55 win against La Salle. Villanova has a potent offense. Villanova is averaging 83 points on the season, ranking them 155th. They are keeping opponents to an average of 66.5 points, placing them 30th in the country.

Michigan Remains Unbeaten with Win vs. Rutgers

The Michigan Wolverines are attempting to keep their undefeated record intact on Tuesday. Michigan has navigated a tough schedule, which proves they are a national contender. Michigan beat Auburn by 30 points two weeks ago, accompanied by a 101-61 win against a ranked Gonzaga squad in their next game. The Wolverines extended the winning streak with a 101-60 home win against Rutgers to begin conference action on Saturday to cover the 25-point spread. Michigan sank 60% of its shots, and the defense held the Knights to a 36% mark. The  Wolverines have covered the spread in four of their past five games.

Yaxel Lendeborg is enjoying a dominating season. The senior forward has surpassed 20 points in two games this season after scoring 20 points in the recent win against Gonzaga. Landeborg is sporting an average of 15.8 PPG on 60% shooting. Morez Johnson Jr. has connected on 50% of his field goals in six straight games. The sophomore forward has netted an average of 14.3 PPG and 6.3 RPG.

Roddy Gayle Jr. is another big scoring threat on this potent team. He has scored double digits in three of his last five games. The senior guard scored 11 points on Saturday and has recorded 11.3 PPG on 58 % shooting. Trey McKenney dropped 13 points on Saturday. The freshman guard is averaging 11.3 PPG. Nimari Burnett has posted 11 or more points in three of his past five games. The senior guard has contributed with 9.3 PPG on the season.

The Wolverines are ranked #1 in the entire country in Ken Pomeroy’s ratings. They climbed to #2 in this week’s edition of the AP Top 25. Michigan is 3-0 on its home court. Michigan is scoring an average of 95 points on the season, ranking them 25th. The Wolverines have conceded 63 or fewer points in five of their past six games and are keeping opponents to an average of 66.9 points, positioning them 35th in the country.

Villanova vs. Michigan Pick

Spread Pick for Villanova vs. Michigan

  • Michigan -15 (5 units)

The Villanova Wildcats are having a strong opening month, but have benefited from an easy schedule. They rank 285th in DI in strength of schedule according to Ken Pomeroy’s ratings. The Michigan Wolverines have endured one of the hardest schedules in the country and remain undefeated. They have already beaten ranked squads, Auburn and Gonzaga.

Furthermore, the Wildcats' defense is mediocre. They are conceding 100.5 points per 100 possessions, which isn’t bad; however, the Wolverines' defense is keeping opponents to 87 points per 100, ranking them #1 in DI in adjusted defensive efficiency. Michigan is winning by huge margins. They beat Auburn by 30 points and Gonzaga by a 100-61 score. Each of their past five wins has been by 25 or more points.

Over/Under Pick for Villanova vs. Michigan

  • Under 148.5 (5 units)

I expect this one to go under. Villanova is posting big numbers, but as mentioned, it’s been a rather easy schedule. The Wolverines are playing stingy defense, conceding an average of only 62 points in their past five games. They contained Gonzaga and Rutgers by keeping them to 61 and 60 points.

In addition, the Wildcats are playing sharp defense, conceding an average of 65 points in their past five games. Villanova plays at a slow pace, standing 352nd in DI in adjusted tempo. The under is a convincing 5-1 in the Wildcats' past six road games.
