Villanova Wildcats (15-4) vs. UConn Huskies (18-1)

The 2025-26 college basketball season is heating up with another loaded Saturday slate, and in this preview, we are breaking down the Big East Conference showdown from PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford, CT, to get you the Villanova vs. UConn prediction.

The Wildcats meet the Huskies for the first time this season, and UConn aims for its third straight victory over Villanova. Last season, they locked horns three times, and the Huskies went 2-1 SU and 1-2 ATS against the Wildcats.

The last time they met, UConn cruised past Villanova 73-56 in the Big East Tournament Quarterfinal. Now, let’s take a closer look at this Villanova vs. UConn prediction, one of our NCAAB picks for Saturday’s card. The tip-off at PeoplesBank Arena is set at 12:30 PM ET.

Villanova shut down Georgetown to get back on track

The Villanova Wildcats (15-4; 12-7 ATS; 10-9 O/U) have gone 6-2 SU and 4-4 ATS since conference play started. They are 2-1 SU and ATS in their last three outings, sandwiching an 86-79 home loss to St. John’s with an 88-82 road victory over Providence and a 66-51 home win against Georgetown.

Last Wednesday, the Wildcats shut down the Hoyas. Villanova held Georgetown to 34.0% shooting from the field (8-for-25 from deep) and forced 17 turnovers. The Wildcats made 40.1% of their field goals (7-for-22 from deep) while posting a 9/9 assist-to-turnover ratio. They outscored the Hoyas 34-14 in the paint.

Junior guard Tyler Perkins tortured Georgetown for 16 points, five rebounds, and four steals, while senior forward Duke Brennan posted a line of 10 points, 10 boards, three assists, and three steals. Last Saturday, Perkins scored 23 points against St. John’s, but the Red Storm outscored the Wildcats 42-22 in the paint.

Villanova is No. 33 in the NCAA NET Rankings. The Wildcats score 121.4 points per 100 possessions (41st in the country) and allow 101.6 points in return (46th). Junior guard Bryce Lindsay is the team’s leading scorer with 14.7 points per game, Perkins adds 12.3 points and 4.9 rebounds a night, and freshman guard Acaden Lewis averages 12.3 points and 5.2 assists.

UConn survived a scare, now looks for its 15th straight W

The UConn Huskies (18-1; 6-13 ATS; 6-12-1 O/U) will take the floor for the first time since last Saturday, when they barely outlasted Georgetown 64-62 as 11.5-point road favorites. It was UConn’s 14th win on the spin, but the Huskies failed to cover the spread for the fifth straight outing. UConn is now 8-0 SU and 3-5 ATS in conference play.

The Huskies made just 36.2% of their field goals last Saturday. They went 5-for-26 from downtown and 17-for-24 from the foul line. At least, the Huskies posted 16 offensive rebounds and committed just six turnovers. Senior center Tarris Reed led the way with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and three steals.

Reed is one of five Huskies with points per game in double figures. He averages 14.5 points and 7.9 rebounds. Junior guard Solomon Ball tallies 14.1 points and 3.7 boards per game, while fellow junior G Silas Demary adds 10.2 points, 6.1 assists, and 4.2 boards a night.

UConn is No. 7 in the NCAA NET Rankings and No. 2 in the AP Top 25 Poll. The Huskies score 121.7 points per 100 possessions (39th in the country) while yielding just 91.8 points in return (3rd). Their defense is third in the country in 3-point percentage (27.5%) and 10th in 2-point percentage (44.8%).

Villanova vs. UConn Pick

Spread Pick for Villanova vs. UConn

  • UConn -9.5 (5 units)

The Huskies barely survived the Georgetown game. They should have learned the lesson, and I expect the Huskies to dominate the Wildcats at home. Villanova lacks height and length, which is going to be an issue in this matchup. UConn plays aggressive defense and is arguably a better rebounding team than Villanova.

As I noted, the Huskies hold their rivals to 27.5% shooting from beyond the arc. UConn’s defense is 29th in the country in 3-point rate (.338), and Villanova heavily relies on 3-pointers. The Wildcats are 58th in 3-point percentage (36.2%) and 61st in 3-point rate (.452).

Villanova’s defense has been solid this season, but it has flaws. The Wildcats’ interior D is not elite, and the Huskies love to attack the paint. UConn hasn’t covered the spread in nine straight games played in January, and that streak will eventually have to come to an end.

Over/Under Pick for Villanova vs. UConn

  • Under 135.5 (5 units)

With both teams playing at a slow pace, I can only look at the under. The Wildcats register just 64.6 possessions per 40 minutes (354th in the country), and the Huskies record 66.7 possessions per 40 minutes (293rd).

Villanova has hit a 70-point mark in each but one of its past seven games overall. However, scoring 70 points against UConn on the road will be a tall order. The Huskies have allowed 64 or fewer points in seven of their previous nine contests overall. The under has hit in each of the last six encounters between UConn and Villanova.
