The Tide Are Red-Hot

Alabama enters this SEC road test at 6–1, fresh off a 37–20 win over Tennessee that showcased their offensive efficiency and defensive discipline. Quarterback Ty Simpson has been outstanding, completing over 70% of his passes for 1,931 yards, 18 touchdowns, and just one interception. His chemistry with wideouts Germie Bernard and Ryan Williams has given the Tide a reliable passing attack, while Jamarion Miller provides balance on the ground. Although the rushing game has been modest by Alabama standards, their ability to sustain drives and convert nearly 50% on third down has kept them among the most efficient offenses in the country.

Defensively, Alabama has been one of the nation’s most complete units, allowing just 17.7 points per game and ranking top-10 nationally in passing defense. The front seven has been disruptive, with Yhonzae Pierre emerging as a pass-rushing force, while the secondary has limited explosive plays. Their red-zone defense has been elite, holding opponents to scores on just 65% of trips, which could be a decisive factor against a South Carolina offense that ranks near the bottom of the FBS in red-zone efficiency.

The Tide’s biggest edge lies in their ability to control tempo on both sides of the ball. With a +9 turnover margin and one of the best time-of-possession marks in the country, Alabama consistently dictates the flow of games. If they can establish rhythm early and force South Carolina into predictable passing situations, the Tide should be in position to extend their SEC winning streak.

Offense Struggles In Loss To Sooners

South Carolina comes in at 3–4, looking to rebound after a 26–7 loss to Oklahoma that highlighted their offensive struggles. Quarterback LaNorris Sellers has shown flashes of promise, completing nearly 65% of his passes for 1,134 yards, but the Gamecocks have averaged just 20.1 points per game, ranking 115th nationally. Running back Rahsul Faison has been steady but underutilized, while Vandrevius Jacobs has emerged as the top receiving option. The lack of explosive plays and inconsistency in sustaining drives has made it difficult for South Carolina to keep pace with higher-powered SEC opponents.

The Gamecocks’ defense has been the more reliable unit, allowing just 20 points per game and ranking inside the top 30 nationally in passing defense. Their secondary has been disciplined, limiting opponents to under 190 passing yards per contest, but the run defense has been more vulnerable, giving up over 150 yards per game. Against Alabama’s balanced attack, South Carolina will need to find ways to generate pressure without overcommitting, as leaving Simpson time in the pocket could prove costly.

Special teams remain a potential X-factor for the Gamecocks under Shane Beamer, as they’ve already blocked a punt and returned multiple kicks for touchdowns this season. In a matchup where they’ll be heavy underdogs, flipping field position or creating a momentum-changing play in the return game could be their best chance to stay competitive. Still, with offensive inefficiency and protection issues up front, South Carolina faces an uphill battle against one of the SEC’s most complete teams.

Alabama vs South Carolina Pick

Alabama vs South Carolina Spread Pick

  • Alabama -11.5 (5 Units)

Alabama -11.5 looks like a strong position because the Crimson Tide’s balance on both sides of the ball creates a clear separation from South Carolina. Ty Simpson has been one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the SEC, spreading the ball to multiple playmakers while keeping turnovers to a minimum. With Germie Bernard and Ryan Williams stretching defenses and Jamarion Miller providing steady production on the ground, Alabama has the versatility to attack in different ways. Against a Gamecocks defense that has been solid but vulnerable against physical rushing attacks, the Tide’s ability to control tempo and sustain drives should allow them to build and maintain a comfortable margin.

On the defensive side, Alabama’s front seven has been dominant, holding opponents under 90 rushing yards per game and consistently forcing offenses into long-yardage situations. That matches up well against a South Carolina offense that has struggled to finish drives and ranks near the bottom nationally in scoring. LaNorris Sellers has shown flashes of promise, but Alabama’s secondary has been disciplined and opportunistic, limiting explosive plays and capitalizing on mistakes. With the Tide’s defense capable of dictating the flow and their offense efficient enough to take advantage of short fields, covering the -11.5 spread looks well within reach in this SEC matchup.

Alabama vs South Carolina Over/Under Pick

  • Under 47.5 (5 Units)

The Under 47.5 feels like the sharper angle here because Alabama’s defense has been one of the most disciplined units in the country, holding opponents under 18 points per game and excelling in the red zone, while South Carolina’s offense has struggled to finish drives and ranks near the bottom nationally in scoring. The Gamecocks’ defense has been respectable against the pass, which could slow Alabama’s aerial attack enough to keep possessions extended but scoring limited. With both teams leaning on methodical drives rather than explosive plays, this matchup projects as a controlled SEC battle that stays beneath 47.5.
