Arizona Looks to Tighten the Race in the Big 12

The Arizona Wildcats picked up a huge win last week, upending Kansas 24-10 at home, earning a bowl bid in the process. The Wildcats did it dramatically, with Quincy Craig racing for a 24-yard touchdown with less than a minute to pay. The win improved the Wildcats to 6-3 on the season, including 3-3 in the Big 12.

“We knew it was going to be an incredible battle and our players kept responding,” Arizona coach Brent Brennan said. “They kept responding and responding. ... I know it wasn't perfect, but we'll fix that.”

Quarterback Noah Fifita finished the game 16-of-31 for 158 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for 71 yards to lead the team. All this after absorbing five sacks in the game. Quincy rushed for 47 yards on just three carries, including the touchdown run. He also had two catches for 13 yards and one of Fifita’s touchdown passes. Arizona finished the game with 323 yards of total offense, averaging 5.4 yards per play. They didn’t commit any turnovers.

On the defensive end, the Wildcats settled down in the second half. After allowing 17 points at halftime, they held Kansas to just three points in the second half to allow the offense to come back. The Wildcats gave up a total of 369 yards of total offense. They held Kansas to just 6-of-17 on third down conversions. Max Harris, Taye Brown, and Dalton Johnson led the Wildcats with nine tackles apiece. Arizona did not have any sacks and didn’t force any turnovers in the come-from-behind win.

The Cincinnati Bearcats’ road to the Big 12 Championship took a big hit last week, losing 45-14 to Utah on the road. The Bearcats trailed 24-7 at the half and were never able to bounce back. The loss halted the Bearcats’ seven-game winning streak. They are now 7-2 overall and 6-1 in Big 12 play.

“I told our team in the locker room we still got a lot to play for, everything to play for,” Cincinnati coach Scott Satterfield said.

Quarterback Brendan Sorsby threw for 221 yards but completed just 11-of-33 passes while throwing for one score and throwing an interception. He also ran for a score, finishing with 28 yards on four carries. Running back Tawee Walker had 67 yards rushing on just seven carries. Wideout Cyrus Allen had two catches for 133 yards and a touchdown. Overall, the Bearcats finished with 427 yards of total offense, including over 200 on the ground.

The Bearcats’ defense was roughed up Saturday night by the Utes. They gave up 490 yards of total offense and 29 first downs. The Bearcats’ defense allowed the Utes to convert on 7-of-15 third-down conversions. Jake Golday led the Bearcats with 12 tackles in the game. Christian Harrison had 10 tackles in the game, and Jiquan Sanks added nine for the Bearcats. The 45 points were the most points the Bearcats have allowed all season.
