Arizona Chases Fifth Win of the Season
The Arizona Wildcats return to action this week after a heartbreaking loss to Houston on the road two weeks ago. The Wildcats now return from their bye week with an overall record of 4-3, riding a two-game losing streak. They have also lost three of their last four games.
“Obviously, coming off a really hard day Saturday in Houston. I thought coach Fritz and that staff did a great job, but obviously, a very disappointing ending for us. Now we're into this bye week, and it's a really important time for us, an opportunity for us to get fresh and for us to dive into the fundamental parts of playing football.” Head coach Brent Brennan said after the heartbreaking loss two weeks ago.
Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita finished an efficient 24-of-26 for 269 yards and two touchdowns against the Cougars. Trailing 28-14 entering the fourth quarter, he led the Cougars on two touchdown drives, knotting the game at 28 before Houston closed the game out with a winning field goal. Fifita threw touchdown passes to Trey Spivey for 70 yards and to Luke Wysong for 13 yards. Spivey also added a 3-yard touchdown as part of the fourth-quarter comeback. Colorado Needs Wins to Earn Bowl Bid
The Colorado Buffaloes hit rock bottom last Saturday night in a 53-7 loss to Utah on the road. It was the team’s third loss in four games and came off an impressive win over Iowa State just two weeks ago. The Buffaloes fell to 3-5 on the season with the loss.
"This was bad," Head coach Deion Sanders said. "It's probably the worst beating I've ever had. Four hundred twenty-two yards rushing. You ain't winning. Three hundred yards, you're not winning. Two hundred fifty, you're not winning. It's not capable. Total offense, 140 yards, you're not winning. Five hundred eighty-seven yards of total offense, you're not winning. Special teams gave up a fake punt as well as a blocked punt; you're not winning. So, all three phases, we got our butts kicked."
The Buffaloes never stood a chance in this one. They trailed 43-0 at the half and scored their lone touchdown in the fourth quarter with the game well out of reach. Arizona at Colorado Pick
Point Spread pick for Arizona at ColoradoÂ
- Arizona -4.5 (4 units)
Colorado’s offense has struggled all season. The Buffaloes are now up against a talented defense in Arizona. The Wildcats are 47th in the nation in scoring defense and have shut down opposing passing attacks, ranking 11th against the pass. They are also a solid 39th against the run. The Buffaloes are not particularly tough on offense this season after several departures on that side of the ball in the offseason. The Buffs are just 90th in rushing the ball and 95th through the air. Don’t expect a big offensive night. Defensively, the Buffs haven’t been much better and have to do soul-searching after being demolished by the Utes last week. Arizona has a chance to ground and pound against the nation’s 126th-ranked rush defense. That will set up the pass later in the game. Arizona will move closer to a bowl bid with a big win on Saturday in Boulder.
