Arizona Remains Undefeated After Narrow Win
The Arizona Wildcats are attempting to keep their undefeated record intact. Itโs been a great opening few games for a squad that was among the worst in the conference last year. The beat Hawaii in the opener and posted a dominating home win against Weber State in week two. Next, the Wildcats had a tough opponent to begin conference play. The squad posted a 23-17 home win against Kansas State in a meeting that had the Wildcats marked as 1.5-point dogs. The Wildcats have covered in each game.
Noah Fifita has been outstanding. The junior QB wasnโt as effective last week against a good Wildcatsโ defense, posting 178 yards. Fifita has posted 712 passing yards and a 6:0 TD to INT ratio. Arizona will run a ton. Ismail Mahdi came through against Kansas State, recording 190 rushing yards. The senior RB leads the squad with 263 yards. Quincy Craig is also a threat, posting 165 yards.

Javin Whatley has been consistently producing. The senior WR posted 168 yards in week two and has issued 237 receiving yards on the year. The Arizona offense netted 412 total yards against Kansas State and is averaging 437 yards per game.
The Wildcats' defense has been among the best in the country, but it's been a rather easy schedule. The group displayed its dominance against Kansas State, keeping a decent offense to just 193 total yards. They are keeping opponents to an average of only 223 yards per game. Genesis Smith has been key, making 19 tackles. The pass defense has been stingy, ranking 12th, while the rush defense is not quite as strong, rated 30th.
Arizona is averaging 37 points on the season, ranking them 39th. The defense is keeping opponents to only 8.7 points, good for sixth.
Iowa State Maintains Undefeated Record
The Iowa State Cyclones are targeting their fifth win of the season. Iowa State began the season in Ireland against Kansas State and came away with a narrow 24-21 win. The Cylcones were the dogs in that one. The squad beat South Dakota in week two and earned a 16-13 home win against Iowa two weeks ago to cover the small three-point spread. Last week was their first true road game. They beat Arkansas State 24-16, but did not cover the big 21-point spread. The Cyclones have covered the spread in two of four games. They dropped to #14 in this week's AP Top 25 rankings.
Rocco Becht has been magnificent under center. The junior QB connected on 66% of his passes against the Hawkeyes and amassed 265 passing yards against Arkansas State. He has generated 860 passing yards, accompanied by a 7:1 TD to INT ratio. Carsen Hansen is a threat on the ground. The receiving core is stacked. Brett Eskildsen has managed 162 receiving yards to lead the squad. Xavier Townsend has 132 receiving yards. While they only scored 24 points, the Iowa State offense posted 452 yards against Arkansas State and is averaging 383 yards per game.
The Cyclones' defense is a big reason they are undefeated this season. The unit was not quite as sharp last week, yielding 382 yards but only 16 points. They are keeping opponents to an average of only 297 yards per game. They came up huge against Kansas State and Iowa. Marcus Neal Jr. has been a beast, making 29 tackles. The pass defense has been their top strength, ranking 35th, while the rush defense comes in at 52nd.
Iowa State is scoring an average of 29.8 points on this year, ranking them 75th. The Cyclones are keeping opponents to 14.3 points, placing them 22nd.
Arizona vs. Iowa State Pick
Spread Pick for Arizona vs. Iowa State
- Arizona Wildcats +6 (5 units)
The Arizona Wildcats are undefeated on the season. The first three games were rather easy, but they played a good Kansas State squad and beat them by six points. This is a team that Iowa State only beat by three points in their season opener. The Cyclones only managed to beat Arkansas State by eight points last week.
Furthermore, Arizona will run more than pass. This is key as the Cyclones' rush defense is mediocre.ย They are conceding an average of 121 yards, pegging them 52nd in the country. Also, the Cyclones' defense was shaky last week, surrendering 383 yards against Arkansas State, which is not a good sign against a potent Arizona offense that has exposed the opposition. The Wildcats' defense has been among the best in the country. Iowa State has a good QB in Rocco Becht. The Wildcats have the defensive ability to contain the senior QB. They rank 12th against the pass. Iowa State runs heavily, and the Wildcats' rush defense is rated 30th.
Over/Under Pick for Arizona vs. Iowa State
- Over 49 (5 units)
I expect plenty of scoring. Arizona has reached 40 points in two of its three games. Fifita has been sharp and has yet to throw an INT this season. The rushing offense has been dangerous, ranking in the top third at 50th. The Cyclones' rush defense has been mediocre, standing 58th.
In addition, Iowa State QB Rocco Brecht has been steady. He has thrown seven TDs against zero picks. I am not sold on the Wildcats' defense yet, considering two of their three games were against a mediocre Hawaii team and Weber State. This game is the defense's biggest task yet. Also, this is the Wildcats' first road game of the season, and it is always a daunting task in a road atmosphere.
