Army Seeks First Conference Win

The Army Black Knights are searching for their first conference win of the season. Army has one win, and it was a big one, posting a 24-21 road win against Kansas State in a clash where Army was huge 17-point dogs. The Black Knights have since dropped two straight games. They lost to North Texas and sustained a 28-6 road loss to East Carolina in a meeting where the Knights were four-point underdogs. The Knights have covered the spread in just one game this season.

Army has a unique offense that consists of a majority of running plays. DeWayne Coleman has only attempted 32 passes for 266 yards with two TDs against two picks. He can also gain yards on the ground, amassing 268 rushing yards, which leads the team.

Army has five players with at least 100 rushing yards on the season. Noah Short, who is actually a wide receiver, has 256 rushing yards. Cale Hellums has been the most carries of any running back on the team and has yielded 226 yards. Hayden Reed has posted 216 yards. Brady Anderson brought in 68 yards in the defeat against North Texas. The sophomore WR has amassed 167 receiving yards. The Army offense managed just 290 yards against East Carolina. They are averaging 380 yards per game on the year.

The Black Knights' defense has been shaky. They conceded 431 yards against East Carolina and are squandering an average of 375 yards per game on the season. Linebacker Andon Thomas has been great, making 42 tackles. The pass defense is ranked 60th. The rush defense has been exposed and is pegged 106th.

Army is averaging 23.8 points on the season, ranking them 95th. The Black Knights are conceding an average of 31 points, ranking them 115th.

UAB Attempts to Surpass .500 Mark

The UAB Blazers are targeting win number three on the season. UAB has been competitive in the defeats. They covered in a loss against Navy and posted a 31-28 home win against Akron a few weeks ago. Next, UAB had a tough matchup in a 56-24 road loss against Tennessee in a clash where the Blazers were huge marked as mammoth 39-point dogs. The Blazers are 0-1 in conference play. They have covered the spread in two of four games on the season.

Jalen Kitna has been dominant under center. The senior QB has already surpassed 300 passing yards in three games this season. He posted 365 yards last week and has racked up 1256 passing yards, accompanied by an 8:3 TD to INT ratio.

The Blazers do not run a ton. Jevon Jackson posted 166 yards in the opener and has been kept in check since. The senior RB has recorded 280 rushing yards on the season. The receiving group is a huge asset. Cori Milliner did not play last week, and it is unknown if he will play. The sophomore WR has been outstanding. He posted 100 yards against Navy and has reported 268 receiving yards on the year. Iverson Hooks has also been a threat, bringing in 267 yards. The UAB offense is posting 437 yards per game. They recorded 394 total yards against Tennessee, which is a big feat.

The Blazers' defense is not nearly as strong as the offense. They have yet to contain an opponent this season, which includes games against Alabama State and Akron. The unit gave up 500 + yards in the recent defeat against Tennessee. The Blazers are squandering an average of 482 yards per game. Pierre Royster leads the squads with 29 tackles. The pass defense is pegged 112th, while the rush defense also dips near the bottom, standing at 130th.

UAB is posting an average of 32.8 points, good for 52nd. The Blazers are conceding an average of 41 points, pegging them 132nd in the country.

Army vs. UAB Pick

Spread Pick for Army vs. UAB

  • Army Black Knights -7 (5 units)

The Army Black Knights are always an interesting team with the triple option offense that consists mostly of running plays. Army posted a stunning upset win against Kansas State last month. They were competitive in an overtime loss against a 5-0 North Texas squad a few weeks ago. The UAB Blazers have a potent offense, but the defense? Horrendous. The Blazers have dropped two of their past three games due to the shaky defense.

Furthermore, as mentioned, Army runs in a majority of its plays and is a daunting task to defend. This has a huge impact on the outcome of this game. The Blazers' defense ranks near the bottom in most categories. The biggest weak spot is the rush defense, squandering an average of 259 yards per game, ranking them at 112th in the country. Also, the UAB offense passes a ton, and the Black Knights' pass defense is decent, conceding an average of 206 yards per game. Take the points with Army.

Over/under Pick for Army vs UAB.

  • Over 58 (5 units)

I expect a barrage of scoring in this one. Army has generated offense in each game except for the loss to East Carolina. They have scored 27 or more points in three of four games this season. The Blazers' defense will cost them games this season. The Blazers' defense surrendered 42 points against Alabama State and 28 against Akron.

In addition, these squads have a quick offense, especially Army, which is 12th in plays per game. UAB is piling on the points. They also have a very quick offense and can generate quick scoring drives. UAB QB Kitna exposed Tennessee last week for 365 passing yards, and I expect another dominating effort. The over is a convincing 5-1 in the Blazers' past six games.
