Commodores Seeking to Bounce Back From Near Miss

Vanderbilt had their two-game win streak snapped as they fell on the road to #20 Texas in their previous contest. The Commodores dropped to 7-2 overall and stand 3-2 in the SEC on the season. Against Texas, Vanderbilt trailed 17-0 after the opening quarter and was playing from behind the rest of the way. The Commodores were down 24-10 at the half and 34-10 after three quarters before staging a rally. Vanderbilt outscored Texas 21-0 to get within three with 33 seconds remaining but saw the ensuing onside kick go out of bounds, ending their chance to rally. The Commodores were outgained 428-423 in total offense, picked up 25 first downs while allowing 23, owned a 30:59 to 29:01 edge in time of possession and committed the gameโ€™s lone turnover.

The Commodores enter this contest 55th in the FBS in passing offense with an average of 245.2 yards per game through the air. Vanderbilt is 33rd in rushing offense as they average 187.2 yards per contest on the ground as a team. The Commodores are 13th in the FBS in scoring offense with an average of 37.6 points per game, while they are 31st in scoring defense as they allow an average of 20.4 points per contest. Auburn vs. Vanderbilt Prediction

Spread Pick for Auburn vs. Vanderbilt

  • Vanderbilt -6.5 (4 units)

Vanderbilt struggled on the road against Texas for three quarters and their furious fourth-quarter rally fell just short. Now, the Commodores return home for this contest and they are a perfect 5-0 as the home team this season. That includes wins over LSU and Missouri in the past few weeks. Auburn has struggled this season and has five losses in their last six games. Itโ€™s tough to adjust to a mid-season coaching change, and Durkin didnโ€™t have a great track record at Maryland, posting an 11-15 mark before being fired. With Daniels making his second start of the year at quarterback, Auburn struggles and Pavia leads the Commodores to a victory here.

Over/Under Pick for Auburn vs. Vanderbilt

  • Under 46 (4 units)

Auburn enters this game having seen the under hit in seven of their nine games this season. The Tigers went over the total in both their wins, coming over Baylor and Arkansas. On the road this season, Auburn has seen split their four road games in relation to the total. Weโ€™ve seen the Tigers have scored 17 points or less in five of their eight games this season. Vanderbilt has gone over the total in five of their nine games on the year, scoring at least 31 points in seven of their contests. The Commodores likely hit that number again here but you canโ€™t expect much more than 10 points from Auburn. Take the under in this contest as a result.
