Auburn is struggling to make its mark under Hugh Freeze
Auburn (3-4 SU, 2-4-1 ATS, and 1-6 O/U) battled valiantly but lost 23-17 in double overtime to Missouri last weekend. The Tigers are still searching for their first SEC victory of the season.

Auburn gave Mizzou all it could handle in its previous game, but still fell short at home in a riveting conference clash. Auburn has dropped 11 of its last 13 SEC games, but its four conference losses this season have all been close. The home team narrowly outgained the visitors 357-343, but didn't get enough points out of their drives. Mizzou committed two turnovers, but still won the time-of-possession battle.
“This just sucks,” Tigers coach Hugh Freeze said. “This stinks, and there’s nothing you can say to make anyone feel better in that locker room. Our fans are incredible, and we’d love to be at Toomer’s (Corner) with them right now. But we’re still obviously not finding ways to win games."
Junior quarterback Jackson Arnold leads Auburn into action with 1,190 passing yards, 12 total touchdowns, and one interception. He has completed 63.6 percent of his passes, averaging 6.1 yards per attempt. The Oklahoma transfer's top receiving targets are sophomore WR Cam Coleman (30 receptions for 413 yards and two TDs) and junior WR Eric Singleton Jr. (36 receptions for 311 yards and two TDs). The Tigers' run game is paced by junior RB Jeremiah Cobb (89 carries for 564 yards and four TDs).
Auburn scores 23.6 points per game (95th) and averages 335.0 total yards (109th), including 172.9 passing yards (116th) and 162.1 rushing yards (61st). The Tigers' defense allows 17.9 points (23rd) and 316.0 total yards (30th) per game, including 228.9 passing yards (82nd) and 87.1 rushing yards (9th).

Can Razorbacks finally get over the hump this week?
Arkansas (2-5 SU, 3-4 ATS, and 5-2 O/U) lost 45-42 to Texas A&M last weekend. The Razorbacks have lost by six or fewer points in all three of their SEC games.
It's been a tough month and a half for the Hogs, who have lost four of their last five games by 13 combined points. Aside from a blowout loss to Notre Dame, they have been competitive, but that didn't stop the school from firing head coach Sam Pittman three weeks ago. Last week's three-point loss to the fourth-ranked Aggies was a tough pill to swallow, as it was their 13th loss in their previous 14 meetings between the SEC squads. The Razorbacks gained over 500 total yards with a dominant run game (268 rushing yards and 8.4 YPC), but committed nine penalties, resulting in 71 lost yards. They were also a combined 5-for-12 on third and fourth down.
"Defensively, we played with a lot of effort," interim coach Bobby Petrino said. "Guys were running to the ball. We still have some assignment issues that open up big plays, explosive plays for them. We missed too many tackles. Although we were getting to the football, we missed more tackles than we did the previous week at Tennessee, which was a thing we tried to build on, and actually went in the wrong direction."
Senior QB Taylen Green leads Arkansas with 1,910 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He has completed 62.4 percent of his passes, averaging 8.6 yards per attempt. The dual-threat has also rushed for 589 yards and five scores, averaging 7.1 yards per carry. A couple of other Razorbacks to watch this weekend against the Tigers are senior RB Mike Washington Jr. (91 carries for 671 yards and five TDs) and senior WR O'Mega Blake (42 receptions for 582 yards and four TDs).
Arkansas scores 37.1 points per game (17th) and averages 513.7 total yards (4th), including 288.4 passing yards (18th) and 225.3 rushing yards (14th). The Hogs' defense allows 32.7 points (122nd) and 443.9 total yards (126th) per game, including 255.1 passing yards (115th) and 188.7 rushing yards (120th).
Arkansas Razorbacks Football Injury Report: No significant new injuries to report for Saturday's game against Auburn.
Auburn vs. Arkansas Pick
Spread Pick for Auburn vs. Arkansas
- Arkansas -2.5 (5 Units)
I believe the Hogs still care about this season, while the same can't be said for the Tigers. Petrino is coaching with the hope he can become the full-time HC again, while Freeze looks like a dead man walking. Aside from the motivation aspect, I feel more confident that Arkansas has been unlucky in its close losses than Auburn has in its narrow defeats. Arkansas has an explosive offense that moves the chains both on the ground and through the air. Green's mobility will help against a stout Tigers front, helping him buy time to find open receivers against the visitors' porous pass defense. In short, Auburn will have a tough time going score for score with Arkansas. The Tigers have a solid run game, but have struggled to get the football to their receivers, which has made their offense very ineffective (112th in yards per play). Plus, the Razorbacks have a significant edge in special teams, ranking 11th nationally, while the Tigers are 121st, per SP+.
Over/Under Pick for Auburn vs. Arkansas
- Over 56 (4 Units)
This is a high total, but I lean towards the over. Arkansas should have plenty of explosive plays on Saturday against an Auburn team that struggles against the pass and ranks 131st in EPA/play. Green will move out of the pocket, finding open receivers when coverage is busted for big chunk plays. The Razorbacks will finish their drives with scores, too. They have converted 25 of their 30 red zone trips into touchdowns this season. While the Tigers' reliance on the run game could slow down the pace, the Arkansas defense is soft. The visitors' ability to run the football should allow them to score plenty of points. While I don't believe they'll keep pace with Arkansas after halftime, the two teams will combine for more than enough possessions to score at least 57 combined points.
