The Baylor Bears (5-5, 3-4 Big 12) and the Arizona Wildcats (7-3, 4-3 Big 12) battle for positioning in the middle of the Big 12 standings on Saturday afternoon in this Baylor vs. Arizona prediction. These teams did not meet last season. Baylor just fell at home against #13 Utah 55-28, missing the cover as 9.5-point home dogs. Arizona is coming off a strong home win over #25 Cincinnati, winning 30-24 on the road as 6.5-point dogs. Kickoff is set for 1:00 EST and can be found on TNT. Baylor Searches for Bowl Eligibility

The Baylor Bears have five wins and five losses with two games to go in the season, meaning it is do-or-die time for the team to gain access to a bowl game. Baylor has lost three of their last four, and must go on the road here against Arizona before finishing the season against #23 Houston at home. Their only recent win was a 30-3 drubbing over UCF, but they took losses against #13 Utah, #21 Cincy and TCU along the way. In their most recent game, Sawyer Robertson passed for 430 yards, but they still lost by 27 against Utah.

Robertson is their 6'4 senior quarterback who has been their starter for the past two seasons, and has the NFL scouts sniffing around as he leads the nation in passing yards with 3,210 with a strong 29-9 TD-INT ratio. Robertson is a pocket passer, as he has only 14 total rushing yards on the year, as he rarely leaves the pocket. If the Bears want to hand the ball off, they go to sophomore back Bryson Washington, who has 721 yards and six touchdowns on the season. Washington ran for 97 yards in their recent battle against Utah.

Josh Cameron has been a strong receiver for the team, as the 6'1 senior is leading the team with 746 yards on 60 catches while getting to the endzone seven times. Their defense has just 11 sacks on the season, led by linebacker Emar'rion Winston with four. They have generated seven interceptions, with safety Jacob Redding leading the way with three out of the secondary.

Wildcats Win Three Straight

The Arizona Wildcats suffered a few midseason losses, but have rebounded quickly and are putting themselves in position for a strong bowl game coming down the stretch. Two of their three losses came against ranked opponents, falling against #14 Iowa State and #18 BYU, and their third loss was against a Houston team who was unranked at the time, but is not 23rd in the nation. In their last game, Arizona got 294 passing yards from Noah Fifita in their win over Cincinnati.

Fifita is their 5'10 junior quarterback, and this is his fourth season with the team as he took a redshirt season his first go around in Tucson. He has been their starter in each of their last three seasons, and has 2,494 yards this year with a strong 24-4 TD-INT ratio. Fifita has not been much of a running threat, as he has just 98 rushing yards on the season. Their top running back on the season has been Ismail Mahdi, the senior back who just transferred in from Texas State last season, and is leading the team with 639 yards and three touchdowns on the season.

Kris Hutson has been their top receiver this season. The 5'11 senior has 41 catches for 512 yards and three touchdowns. Their defense has 18 sacks on the season, partially led by linebacker Riley Wilson with three. The secondary has been active, generating 14 interceptions, including four from Jay'Vion Cole.

Baylor vs. Arizona Picks and Predictions

Spread pick for Baylor vs. Arizona

  • Arizona -6.5 (5 units)

Momentum matters, and the Arizona Wildcats still think they have an outside chance at the College Football Playoff and will treat this like their Super Bowl. Realistically, Arizona will be on the outside looking in for the Playoffs, but they have still only lost to three good teams, and will be able to take care of this Baylor team which has had much worse losses along the way. Baylor only has 11 sacks on the entire season, meaning Fifita will have all day in the backfield to find his receivers and generate offense. Baylor lost to unranked TCU and Arizona State on the road; they will go down again here.

Take Arizona to win and cover.

Over/Under Pick for Baylor vs. Arizona

  • Under 62.5 (4 units)

This number has gotten too high, as each team has been trending toward the under lately, and this number is well above those previous totals. Baylor has gone under in two of their last three, and will struggle here as Robertson is not able to move well in the pocket with the Arizona defense bearing down on him. The Wildcats went under in each of their last two games by a comfortable margin, and will go under again here as the Wildcats control the pace of the game.

Take the under.
