For some teams, beating their rival can make their season, and that has been the vibe Bowling Green has been giving off. After upsetting their archrival Toledo 28-23, the Falcons have been playing terrible football, losing to Central Michigan 27-6, Kent State 24-21, and Buffalo 28-3. The Falcons have dealt with injuries at quarterback, and four different signal-callers have taken snaps for them. The starter is former Notre Dame quarterback Drew Pyne, who also spent time at Arizona State and Missouri after that. Pyne has not looked good for the Falcons this season, completing less than 53% of his passes in three of his last four starts. On the season, Pyne has four touchdown passes and four interceptions.

Loses piling up
It’s been a rough season for the Eastern Michigan Eagles. With seven losses, a bowl game is highly unlikely unless they run the table and then see enough bowl-eligible teams decline invitations, which is something that has occasionally allowed 5-7 teams to sneak in. Still, the resume isn’t strong and includes an embarrassing 28-23 home loss to FCS member Long Island University. The Eagles have also lost by double digits to Texas State and Kentucky, but they did manage to pick up a win over Louisiana.
In conference play, Eastern Michigan has dropped games to Central Michigan and Buffalo, picked up a win over Northern Illinois, and has now lost back-to-back matchups to Miami and Ohio. The Eagles are led by quarterback Noah Kim, who previously played for Michigan State and Coastal Carolina. At Eastern Michigan, Kim is having a career year, completing 62.5% of his passes for 2,051 yards with 14 touchdowns and six interceptions. In their last game, Kim completed 21 of 30 for 259 ards with two passing TDs and a rushing score in their 28-21 loss to Ohio at home on Oct. 25.
Offensively, the Eagles have shown flashes of potential but haven’t been able to get many wins. They rank 85th nationally with 366.8 yards per game, including 227.9 passing yards (72nd) and 138.9 rushing yards (89th). Scoring has also been an issue, with EMU averaging 24.1 points per game, which ranks 93rd in the FBS.
The Eagles own one of the worst defenses in the country, giving up 455.7 yards per game, which ranks 130th nationally. The pass defense has been respectable, allowing just 212.1 yards per game (61st), but the run defense has been gashed, giving up 243.6 yards per game, which is dead last in the country. EMU also allows 32.9 points per game, ranking 121st in scoring defense.

Bowling Green has run the ball on more than 55% of its offensive plays this season, and Eastern Michigan is last in the MAC, allowing 6.5 yards per rush attempt on defense. Expect the Falcons to take advantage of that weakness and grind out a win as a road underdog.
