49ers are coming off a drubbing to Georgia
Charlotte (1-10 SU, 4-7 ATS, and 6-5 O/U) lost 35-3 to Georgia last Saturday, covering the 42.5-point spread.
The 49ers are winless in AAC competition this season, with their lone victory coming in Week 3 against FCS Monmouth. They have scored seven or fewer points in four games this season, including their previous two. Charlotte's smallest margin of defeat was 11 points in a 28-17 loss to Rice in Week 4.
The 49ers' passing game is led by sophomore QB Grayson Loftis, who has completed 53.1 percent of his passes for 1,275 yards with eight touchdowns and seven picks. His top receiving targets are junior WR Javen Nicholas (56 receptions for 700 yards and five TDs) and senior WR Sean Brown (31 receptions for 459 yards and one TD). The Charlotte run game is paced by freshman back Rod Gainey Jr. (67 carries for 256 yards and one score).
Charlotte scores 17.2 points per game (131st) and averages 328.9 total yards (124th), including 230.5 passing yards (80th) and 98.4 rushing yards (131st). The Niners' defense allows 40.9 points (135th) and 520.0 total yards (134th) per game, including 294.8 passing yards (133rd) and 225.2 rushing yards (132nd).

Tulane has been fun to watch this year
Tulane (9-2 SU, 6-5 ATS, and 4-7 O/U) defeated Temple 37-13 in its previous game, covering the seven-point spread.
The Green Wave is a College Football Playoff contender with a 6-1 AAC record and non-conference wins over Duke and Northwestern. Tulane is one of ten teams nationally to earn a CFP ranking in four consecutive seasons. They were dominant last weekend, outgaining the Owls by over 200 total yards and holding the football for nearly ten more minutes.
Junior QB Jake Retzlaff leads Tulane into action with 2,426 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and four picks. He has completed 61.1 percent of his passes, averaging 8.2 yards per attempt. The BYU transfer also leads the team in rushing (99 carries for 565 yards and 12 TDs). His top receiving options are junior WR Shazz Preston (33 receptions for 595 yards and four TDs) and sophomore WR Omari Hayes (30 receptions for 420 yards and one TD).
Tulane scores 31.7 points per game (50th) and averages 453.2 total yards (35th), including 266.9 passing yards (44th) and 186.3 rushing yards (48th). The Green Wave defense surrenders 27.3 points (71st) and 432.7 total yards (101st) per game, including 288.0 passing yards (129th) and 144.7 rushing yards (46th).
Tulane Green Wave Football Injury Report:
- WR Bryce Bohanon (third-leading receiver) is doubtful to play on Saturday.
Charlotte vs. Tulane Pick and Preview
Spread Pick for Charlotte vs. Tulane
- Tulane -30 (4 Units)
After a complete performance last week against Temple, I like Tulane to keep rolling against the hapless 49ers. The home team is well-balanced offensively and can lean on its run game when it needs to against a 49ers run defense that ranks 128th nationally in runs of 10-plus yards allowed. They have won three straight games with 35 or more points scored and kept the chains moving last week (21 first downs).
The Niners will be overmatched on both sides of the ball, and I'm curious where their heads will be after being demolished by Georgia. Facing two potential CFP contenders in consecutive weeks this late in the season feels like extra punishment for a team that's already had an awful season. Charlotte has scored just ten points in its last two games and has allowed 28 points in five straight.
I'm sure this isn't anyone's favorite bet of the weekend, but the Green Wave isn't likely to stumble on Saturday. Tulane can cover the 30-point spread!
Over/Under Pick for Charlotte vs. Tulane
- Under 53 (5 Units)
The 49ers don't have a pulse offensively. They rank 105th nationally in third-down conversion percentage and 2nd-to-last in red-zone conversion percentage. The Tulane defense is capable of turning them over (17 takeaways), too. I expect Charlotte to eat up too much clock when it has the ball, preventing the Green Wave from winning by 40-plus. There are only so many possessions to go around, and by the second half, I anticipate the home team will be comfortable taking its time. They'll lean on their ground game and give their backups some quality playing time, keeping the starters healthy ahead of more important games.
