Read our Troy Trojans vs Clemson Tigers prediction along with our NCAAF Betting Picks! Clemson is No. 8 in the nation after losing their first game of the season to LSU last week. The Tigers did not play crisp and efficiently especially in the second half as LSU came from behind to win. They will play host to the Sun Belt’s Troy Trojans, who are 1-0. They defeated FCS’ Nicholls in their first game last week. These two teams will meet with kick-off set for 3:30 P.M. EST.

Troy finishes strong to claim Week 1 win over Nicholls

Troy comes into Week 2 with a 1-0 record. The Sun Belt squad is coming off of a strong home appearance against an FCS squad. The Trojans last win over a Power-Four Conference opponent came in 2018 when they defeated Nebraska on the road 24-19.

In their last game, Troy defeated Nicholls 38-20 at home on Saturday, Aug. 30. The Colonels actually went ahead early with a 10-0 lead just before Troy scored a touchdown at the halftime break. Nicholls took a 17-7 lead halfway through the third quarter. But, Troy stayed calm outscoring the Colonels 31-3 across the final 19 minutes of the game.

Quarterback Goose Crowder threw for 144 yards on 14-for-24 passing. He tossed 144 yards and three touchdowns in the win. The majority of Troy’s offense came from the legs of Tae Meadows, who rushed for 186 yards on 23 carries and a touchdown.

Troy’s defense allowed just 249 yards of offense for Nicholls. The Colonels went 4-for-11 from third down and they turned the ball over once. Troy’s Elijah Davis is expected otherwise have a big season after transferring from South Carolina. Jordan Stringer is also a top linebacker in the Sun Belt Conference.

"I think any time you can compete against great people and great operations... your level of play must rise and meet great players and great coaching schemes, as well,” Troy head coach Gerad Parker said this week. "For us to play in this type of environment, if we treat it the right way and compete in the right way, it's going to allow us to improve at a much faster rate, which allows us to prepare for what the Sun Belt Conference will bring us, and future opponents in Memphis and Buffalo."

Troy did not cover the spread against Nicholls last week. They were 21.5 point favorites as they only won the game by 18 points. The over did hit in the game as it was set at 47.5 points.

Clemson outshined in Week 1 loss to LSU

Clemson has dropped in the latest rankings to No. 8 in the nation as they have an 0-1 record. It was a tough start to the season for the Tigers, who were picked to be national title contenders this season. Luckily for them, there is still tons of time to right the ship and get back on track.

In their last game, Clemson lost 17-10 to No. 9 LSU on Saturday, Aug. 30. The Tigers opened the game with a 3-0 lead thanks to a 42-yard field gaol. LSU would answer with a field goal of their own in the second quarter.

With four minutes to play in the first half, Clemson scored their lone touchdown off of a. 1-yard rush from Adam Randall. It was a big time drive for the Tigers, who went 75 yards on 13 plays. But, the offense would fall and would be non-existent in the second half. LSU scored two touchdowns in the final two quarters to steal the win.

Clemson went just 3-for-13 on third down as they accumulated just 261 yards in the loss. They turned the ball over once via a quarterback Cade Klubnik interception. He threw for 230 yards on 19-for-38 passing. The rushing attack struggled for Clemson as Adam Randall’s 16 yards was a team-high. Bryant Wesco Jr. was the top target with 66 yards and four catches.

“Watch the tape and you just have to make the plays that are there,” Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said this week. “That's just easy stuff. Nothing is complicated. We just have to do the routine stuff. The biggest issue in that game is that our best player didn't play well. And if that is the biggest issue from the game, sign me up because (Klubnik) will respond, I promise you that.”

Clemson was favored by 5.5 points in the opening game against LSU. They obviously did not cover the spread as they lost the outing. The under did hit in their first game as the total was set for 55.5. Defense was strong for both Clemson and LSU throughout the matchup.

Spread Pick for Troy vs. Clemson

  • Troy Trojans +33.5 (5 units)

Clemson will be able to bounce back with a win over Troy on Saturday. The Tigers will not be able to blow them out of the water like they would hope for in this game. Clemson’s offense will be out of touch in their parts of the game. The way their offense looked in the second half against LSU is not easily fixable in just one week of practice. Troy is no slouch either; they are picked to be near the top of the Sun Belt Conference and a close game here could help them if they want to push for a spot in the College Football Playoff as an at-large bid. Troy’s rushing attack is strong enough to control the game clock and move for first downs, just as LSU dominated the time of possession last week over Clemson. This will be a closer game than expected, but Clemson’s athletes are just too good for Troy to come away with a win.

Take Troy to cover.

Over/Under Pick for Troy vs. Clemson

Under 51.5 (5 units)

The defense was key for both teams last week. Clemson kept LSU’s star offense to less than 20 points. Yes, it did lead to a loss, but the defense was not the problem. The Tigers should be able to keep it rolling against Troy while Clemson’s offense will try to find any sort of momentum. If Clemson’s offense struggles early and Troy’s defense gains confidence, this should be a very low scoring game once again.

Take the under on Saturday.
