Duke Seeking to Avenge Last Month’s Loss to Virginia

Duke bounced back from losing three of four as they claimed their final two games of the season, downing North Carolina and Wake Forest, to earn their way into the ACC title game. The Blue Devils improved to 7-5 overall and 6-2 in the ACC. They earned the spot in a five-way tie with SMU, Miami, Pitt and Georgia Tech based on the fifth tiebreaker because of a higher conference opponent winning percentage. Against Wake Forest, Duke led 14-3 after the opening quarter and 21-17 at the half before scoring the first two touchdowns of the second half to go up 35-17. The Blue Devils never let the Demon Deacons closer than 10 the rest of the way. Duke was outgained 466-378 in total offense and gave up 27 first downs while recording 24 in the game. The Blue Devils owned a 34:39 to 25:21 margin in time of possession and forced four turnovers while not committing any in the victory.

Duke vs. Virginia Prediction

Spread Pick for Duke vs. UVA

  • Virginia -3.5 (4 units)

These teams met in Durham last month and the Cavaliers dropped the hammer on the Blue Devils, rolling to a 17-3 lead at the half and a 31-3 edge after three quarters en route to the 34-17 win. Virginia piled up 540 yards of offense, outrushing Duke 224-42, as they dominated. The Cavaliers are missing two of their running backs but they still have Taylor and Waylee to lead the way on the ground. Duke could be banged up in the secondary and they struggled to move the ball with any consistency in that contest. The Blue Devils are just happy to be here, while Virginia looks to add the conference championship title to their regular-season crown. Look for Morris to lead the Hoos to victory.

Over/Under Pick for Duke vs. UVa

  • Under 57.5 (4 units)

Duke has seen the over post a 9-3 mark in their 12 games this season. The Blue Devils are an excellent offensive squad though they have had defensive issues. Duke cracked the 30-point mark eight times during the season while allowing the opposition to score at least 30 points seven times. Virginia has seen the under post a 6-5-1 mark on the year, but they have been under machines of late. After starting the year with five straight overs, the under is 6-0-1 in the Cavaliers’ last seven games. We saw these teams combine for 51 points against a total of 60 last month and this one ends up falling short of the number.
