East Carolina looking for a road win
The East Carolina Pirates are coming off a bye week. The last time the Pirates took the field, they beat Tulsa 41-27 at home. Temple also played Tulsa last week and won by one point in overtime.

Temple escaped last week with a 38-37 overtime win over the Golden Hurricane in Tulsa. It was their second win in a row after blowing out Charlotte 49-14 the week prior. The Owls are now heading back home, where they are 2-1 this season.
The Owls rank 40th nationally in scoring at 33.6 points per game and have racked up 389.6 total yards per contest, which is 67th. They are 83rd in passing yards (216.8) and 50th in rushing yards (172.9) per game. Quarterback Evan Simon has been outstanding, going under the radar while having one of the nation's most efficient seasons, throwing 21 touchdown passes without a single interception, and 1,611 yards passing. His play has not gone unnoticed, as Simon is on the Manning Award Watchlist.
Defensively, the Owls are 85th, allowing 26 ppg, and 60th with 360.9 yards allowed per game. They are stronger against the pas,s limiting opponents to just 189.4. yards per game (31st), but why pass when you can run it down their throats, as they allow 171.5 yards per game on the ground, ranking 103rd.
East Carolina vs Temple Prediction
ATS Pick got ECU vs. Temple:
- East Carolina -4.5 (3 units)
Evan Simon is having an awesome season, but the history of ECU's recent dominance in this series is hard to ignore. The Pirates have won the last four head-to-head meetings and covered in the last five straight. Coming into this game, the records are similar, but according to the Football Power Index, the Pirates are the 57th-rated team in the nation, and Temple is only 88th. The Pirates only allow 3.8 yards per rush attempt, while Tulsa allows 5.1. With the defensive edge and extra prep time, I like ECU.
Total Pick for ECU vs. Temple:
- Over 57.5 (3 units)
East Carolina ranks fifth nationally in plays per second, while Temple sits all the way down at 116th. The key question is which side will dictate the pace. Temple will want to slow this game down, but if ECU gets up early, Temple will be forced to speed things up and open up the playbook.
The Pirates’ defense has some clear vulnerabilities, ranking just 82nd in yards allowed per pass attempt, which should give Evan Simon and the Owls’ passing attack opportunities to move the ball. On the other side, Temple’s defense has its own issues as they’re 117th in yards allowed per rush attempt, making them vulnerable against ECU’s rushing attack.
I expect to see plenty of scoring drives and possessions. I am on the over.
