East Tennessee State Coming Off a Big Offensive Win

Jelani Thurman was Edwards’ top target, catching four passes for 94 yards and averaging 23.5 yards per reception. Jordan Shipp added five catches for 71 yards. North Carolina’s defensive front made a clear impact against TCU, recording three sacks. Xavier Lewis accounted for two sacks and seven tackles, while Melkart Abou Jaoude added another sack. Derek McDonald led the Tar Heels with 11 tackles. North Carolina also forced a fumble and held TCU to only 10 points.

Key to the Game

North Carolina’s defensive front against East Tennessee State’s passing attack is the key matchup. Mims has thrown for 615 yards and five touchdowns while completing 74.2 percent of his passes, and ETSU has several targets capable of producing longer gains. North Carolina recorded three sacks in its opener, led by Lewis with two. The Tar Heels need that pressure to disrupt Mims before routes develop. ETSU has allowed only one sack, so this matchup could determine how consistently the Buccaneers move the ball.

East Tennessee State vs North Carolina Game Pick

  • North Carolina Tar Heels

North Carolina is the pick behind a defense that allowed only 10 points in its opening victory over TCU. The Tar Heels recorded three sacks, and that defensive front will be important against Mason Mims and an East Tennessee State offense that has produced big passing numbers. ETSU has also allowed 63 points across two games, including 49 against Campbell. North Carolina did not produce much on the ground in its opener, but Billy Edwards Jr. threw for 232 yards without an interception in the win.

East Tennessee State vs North Carolina Over/Under Pick

  • Over

Over is the pick with East Tennessee State showing plenty of scoring ability through its opening two games. The Buccaneers have scored 37 and 48 points, with Mason Mims throwing five touchdowns and TJ Peyton rushing for three more. North Carolina scored only 15 against TCU, but Billy Edwards Jr. threw for 232 yards and averaged 8.3 yards per attempt. ETSU has also allowed 63 points through two games, creating room for North Carolina to improve its scoring production while the Buccaneers contribute points themselves.
