Owls coming off a strong win
Florida Atlantic took a step forward towards bowl eligibility by snapping a two-game losing streak with a 40-21 win over Tulsa last week. The victory was even more dominant than the final score reflected, as the Owls went into halftime up 31-6. Tulsa outgained FAU 431 to 420 in total yards for the game, but the Owls, who went in dead-last in FBS in turnover margin actually held a 3-1 turnover margin in the game which included a 95-yard fumble return for a touchdown that put FAU up 24-6 at a time when Tulsa was near making it at least a 17-12 game.

Offensively, FAU has shown the ability to move the ball, ranking 36th in the country with 427.7 total yards per game and an impressive 324.2 passing yards per game, which ranks third nationally. Quarterback Caden Veltkamp leads the offense after starting at Western Kentucky last season, throwing for 2,600 yards with 20 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while completing 66% of his passes. His top target has been Easton Messer, who has caught 73 passes for 710 yards and four touchdowns. The running game for FAU has not been strong, ranking 126th with 103.4 yards per game, but Kaden Shields-Dutton did rush for 107 yards on 10 carries against Tulsa.
On the defensive end, FAU allows 411.8 yards per game (112th in FBS) and 34.6 ppg (129th).β

Tulane looks to avoid a letdown
The Tulane Green Wave is working towards an American Conference Championship and hopefully a special ending to the season. The Green Wave have Power-Four wins over Northwestern 23-3 to open the season and Duke 34-27 shortly after. Tulane's two losses have been by substantial margins to Ole Miss 45-10 and 48-26 against UTSA in their only conference loss on October 30th.
The Green Wave bounced back from that loss to UTSA by beating the Memphis Tigers on the road 38-32 last week. The Green Wave now find themselves substantial favorites as they host FAU.
The Tulane offense is 46th in the FBS. Leading the Tulane offense is led by quarterback Jake Retzlaff, who has 1,954 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, six interceptions, and a 60.6% completion rate. Retzlaff, who played for BYU last season, also has a team-best 556 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.
Although Tulane has been successful overall, the defensive numbers don't look great on paper. The Green Wave are 105th in the country, allowing 405.7 yards per game, and 119th and defensive third-down percentage, with their opponents picking up first downs and close to 44% of those situations. β
FAU Owls vs Tulane Green Wave Predictions
ATS Prediction for FUA vs. Tulane:
- FAU +17.5 (4 units)
Tulane has been getting the job done by winning seven out of nine games, but blowing their opponents out has not been their specialty. The Green Wave have won five of their seven games by seven points or less, and their largest conference victory was 31-14 against Tulsa. FAU certainly has its flaws, but they were a motivated team last week, and getting to a bowl game is important to them. Expect the Owls to compete and cover the large number.β
Total Prediction for FAU vs. Tulane:
- Over 63.5 (4 units)
The last two Tulane games have produced 74 and 70 total points, and the Green Wave rank 25th nationally in yards per play this season, so their offense should have no trouble moving the ball. On the other side, FAU has allowed 33 or more points in six games this year, struggling to contain explosive attacks. When the Owls have the ball, they tend to lean on the passing game rather than the run, trying to strike quickly to keep pace. All signs point to plenty of scoring in New Orleans on Saturday.
