Is Georgia Tech the real deal?

Georgia Tech has been one of the season’s biggest surprises, surging to a 6-0 start and a spot in the top 15 of the polls. They are coming off a 35-20 win at home over Virginia Tech led by 269 yards on the ground and 129 yards from running back Malachi Hosley. Head coach Brent Key’s squad pairs a powerful run game (238 yards per contest, 11th in FBS) with balanced quarterback play from Haynes King, who has thrown for 971 yards with four touchdowns and one pick, while also leading the team with 440 yards with nine touchdowns rushing.

Overall, the Yellow Jackets' offense ranks 13th nationally at 476.8 total yards and 24th in scoring at 36.7 points per game. The Yellow Jackets have been clutch in close games, with narrow road victories against Colorado and Wake Forest this season.

On defense, Georgia Tech is strong against the pass, allowing only 188.8 passing yards per game, which is 34th, but they are only 105th against the run, giving up 169.5 yards per game.

Can Duke knock off GT?

On Saturday, Duke will be aiming to snap a four-game head-to-head skid against Georgia Tech and make a statement with home-field advantage. They are also coming off a bye after playing at Cal on Oct. 4. The Blue Devils have won three straight after losing to Illinois and Tulane in early September.

The Blue Devils do have one of the most explosive passing offenses in college football, averaging 310 yards per game (11th nationally). Quarterback Darian Mensah is playing at an elite level, completing nearly 70% of passes for 1,838 yards and 15 touchdowns against just two interceptions.  He leads the ACC in passing yards per game at 306.3. Running back Nate Sheppard (447 yards, 4 TDs) and receiver Cooper Barkate (475 yards, 4 TDs) anchor a balanced attack generating 36.5 points per contest.

During the current three-game win streak, the Blue Devils have enjoyed dominant offensive performances. On defense, Duke is 78th, allowing 25.5 ppg. They are strongest against the run, ranking 42nd with 123.2 yards per game allowed, but have struggled against the pass, ranking 116th with  252.7 yards per game through the air allowed.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Duke Blue Devils Predictions

Moneyline Pick for Georgia Tech vs. Duke

  • Georgia Tech +100 (5 units)

Take Georgia Tech to win outright. The Yellow Jackets have controlled this rivalry in recent years and enter with a more consistent defense — particularly against the pass, which happens to be Duke’s biggest strength. The Blue Devils rank 112th in time of possession and 109th in defensive third-down conversions, which should allow Georgia Tech to sustain drives and wear Duke down as the game progresses.

The Jackets’ physical rushing attack and ability to perform in close road games give them an edge in what’s expected to be a tight matchup. While Duke has the more explosive offense on paper, Georgia Tech’s balance, poise, and experience in pressure situations make them the more reliable side to back. Expect them to stay unbeaten and extend their recent dominance in this series.

Total pick for Georgia Tech vs. Duke

  • Under 60 (4 units)

The last three meetings between these teams have all gone under the total, and this matchup sets up similarly. Both defenses tend to tighten up in the red zone, limiting scoring chances despite the offensive firepower on both sides. Georgia Tech’s methodical, ball-control approach should help keep the clock moving, while Duke’s offense tends to stall in high-pressure moments.

From a matchup standpoint, Georgia Tech’s strength lies in its rushing attack, while Duke’s defense is built to stop the run. On the other side, Duke’s explosive passing game will be tested by a disciplined Yellow Jackets secondary. Expect a physical, back-and-forth battle with limited big plays and long, grinding possessions. With ACC positioning on the line and both defenses capable of key stops, the under looks like the sharper side — and the more balanced Yellow Jackets have the edge to come out on top.
