What a battle we have on Friday in the Peach State: Georgia vs. Georgia Tech prediction. No. 4 Georgia is 10-1 and looking to end the regular season on a winning note and a berth in the CFP. No. 23 Georgia Tech is 9-2 but is coming off a devastating loss to Pittsburgh in its last game, dropping from 15 to 23 in the latest CFP poll. Last season, these teams met with the Bulldogs winning a thriller, 44-42 in overtime. Georgia is a 13.5-point favorite and the total is 59.5. Smart has his team in position
Georgia lost to Alabama 24-21 on Sept. 27 and the Bulldogs looked like a flawed team. But great coaches figure out a way to win and Kirby Smart had his team turn on the turbo boosters and win seven straight games, including a dominant performance over then-No. 10 Texas 35-10 at home on Nov. 15. Last week, they handed Charlotte 35-3 in a non-conference meeting from Athens.
The win over the Longhorns put Georgia (7-1 SEC) in position to go to the SEC title game and face Texas A&M (7-0). However, Alabama (6-1) has the tiebreaker if they defeat Auburn on the road. Georgia has the tiebreaker over 6-1 Ole Miss since they defeated the Rebels on Oct. 18. Either way, a win here basically solidifies the Bulldogs' spot in the CFP, whether they go to the SEC title game or not.
Gunner Stockton is the leader of the Bulldogs with 2,465 yards passing, 19 TDs and just four picks. He's also a threat as a runner with 493 yards and six TDs. RB Nate Frazier has 701 yards rushing to lead a talented group (as always) of backs with five TDs (5.4ypc). The top receiver is Zachariah Branch with 63 catches for 638 yards and three TDs.
This is not one of Smart's best defensive teams because they are average against the pass (227.6ypg), but they are excellent against the run, allowing 96.4 yards per game to rank seventh.
Key Injuries for Georgia:
- RB Chauncey Bowens (undisclosed) is questionable. Has 493 yards rushing and six TDs.
- CB Kyron Jones (ankle) is questionable. Has 22 tackles.
Yellow Jackets fall late in the season
Georgia Tech opened the season at 8-0 and then fell at NC State 48-36. The defense also struggled in a 36-34 win over Boston College, which is 1-10 on the season and 0-7 in the ACC. The cracks were showing and it exploded in a 42-28 loss to Pitt at home in their last game. QB Haynes King ran for 76 yards and threw for 257 yards with two TDs, but he was also picked off twice. One of those interceptions was returned 100 yards by Bryalan Lovelace in the third quarter, which turned this game into a blowout (35-14).
King is completing 71.8% of his passes for 2,516 yards with 12 TDs and four INTs. He's also leading the team in rushing with 883 yards and 15 TDs (5.3ypc). Eric Rivers leads all receivers with 40 catches for 536 yards and a TD. Offensively, Georgia Tech is elite, with 534.5 yards per game (3rd) and 236.7 rushing yards (12th). Defensively, they are a mess, allowing 184.6 yards per game on the ground (101st) and 265.8 passing yards (112th).

This is a tough one because the Yellow Jackets need this game, but Georgia also doesn't want to slip up. I just don't see the Yellow Jackets being able to hang in this game when Georgia gets it going in the second quarter and second half. If you can't stop the run against teams like Boston College and Pitt, how are you going to do against Georgia? Then you add Stockton and the passing game and it's going to be a long day for the Yellow Jackets' secondary.

This game is in a dome, so Georgia's speed will be on display and Georgia Tech's defense will struggle big-time. Georgia does have some issues against the pass, so GT quarterback Haynes King will do some damage. The Yellow Jackets have gone over in three straight games.
