Hawaii meets Colorado State for the first time since November 25, 2023, when the Rainbow Warriors outlasted the Rams 27-24 as 5.5-point home underdogs. This time around, the Warriors are 2.5-point road dogs with a total of 54.5 points.
The kick-off at Canvas Stadium is set at 7:00 PM ET, so let’s take a closer look at this Hawaii vs. Colorado State prediction, one of our NCAAF picks for Week 8.
Hawaii eyes its third straight W
The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors (5-2; 5-2 ATS; 3-4 O/U) are 2-1 in conference play. After a 23-21 home loss against Fresno State, the Rainbow Warriors strung together wins over Air Force 44-35 on the road and Utah State 44-26 at home.

The Warriors lean on their passing offense. Against Air Force, freshman QB Micah Alejado completed 35 of his 47 passing attempts, throwing for a whopping 457 yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore WR Jackson Harris had seven catches for 144 yards and two touchdowns, while running backs Landon Sims and Cam Barfield scored a touchdown each. The Warriors went 14-for-19 on third down and didn’t allow a single sack.
Last Saturday, Alejado tortured Utah State. He threw for 413 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception while scoring once on his own. Sims posted 10 carries for 82 yards and a TD, while junior WR Pofele Ashlock had eight receptions for 113 yards and three touchdowns. The Warriors won the turnover battle 2-1 and kept the ball in possession for 34:01.
“We like where our defense is at,” Hawaii coach Timmy Chang said. “If we play sound defense against a really good offense, that helps us. On offense, it’s about protecting up front, running the ball well, and executing the passing game. We just need to execute in all three phases and get this thing going.”
Alejado has thrown for 1,456 yards, nine touchdowns, and five interceptions across five appearances this season. Ashlock leads the receiving corps with 46 catches for 468 yards and six touchdowns, while Sims has 527 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns on his season tally.
The Warriors score 28.3 points per game (tied for 73rd in the country) on 295.1 passing yards (17th) and 99.0 rushing yards (125th). They allow 23.9 points in return (68th) on 199.3 passing yards (48th) and 133.3 rushing yards (57th).
Colorado State cruised past Fresno State in Week 7
The Colorado State Rams (2-4; 3-3 ATS; 3-3 O/U) improved to 1-1 in conference play following a comfortable 49-21 home victory in Week 7. The Rams stopped a three-game slide. After consecutive defeats against UTSA 17-16, Washington State 20-3, and San Diego State 45-24, the Rams cruised past the Bulldogs on the back of their defense.
Fresno State outgained Colorado State 469-334 in total yards, but the Rams won the turnover battle 4-0. CSU picked off E.J. Warner three times, while Paul Tangelo’s 36-yard fumble return gave the Rams a 35-7 lead in the second quarter.
Sophomore signal-caller Jackson Brousseau tossed for 144 yards and three touchdowns last week. Running backs Justin Marshall, Lloyd Avant, and Jalen Dupree scored a touchdown each, while senior tight end Rocky Beers had three receptions for 26 yards and two touchdowns.
"I thought the guys played hard," Brousseau said. "We also started the game with a huge run, 73 yards by Marsh. So that really sparked us, that helped us out a lot. And we just strung drives together, and we just did our assignments."
Brousseau has thrown for 565 yards and five touchdowns through four appearances this season. Junior wideout Armani Winfield leads the receiving corps with 16 catches for 231 yards and a touchdown, while Dupree has accounted for 76 carries, 401 rushing yards, and two scores. Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi
The Rams tally 22.3 points per game (tied for 104th in the nation) on 185.5 passing yards (tied for 106th) and 158.8 rushing yards (68th). They surrender 26.3 points in return (83rd) on 226.2 passing yards (77th) and 179.3 rushing yards (113th).
Hawaii vs. Colorado State Pick
Spread Pick for Hawaii vs. Colorado State
- Hawaii +2.5 (5 units)
There’s no way I’m going to lay points with the Rams in this matchup. The Rainbow Warriors’ offense has done a great job over the last couple of weeks, and I don’t see the Rams posting three interceptions once more. Moreover, the Rams struggle against rushing, and the Warriors shouldn’t have any problems moving the chains.
It’s hard to trust the Rams’ offense despite that 49-point outburst against Fresno State. During their three-game losing streak, the Rams have only scored 43 points.
The Rainbow Warriors are more dangerous when playing at home. Yet, they beat Air Force in their previous showing on the road and are 2-2 SU and ATS in their last four road contests. The Warriors are 3-1 SU and 4-0 ATS in their last four encounters with the Rams.
Over/Under Pick for Hawaii vs. Colorado State
- Under 54.5 (5 units)
As I mentioned, the Rainbow Warriors heavily rely on their passing offense. But in this matchup, the Warriors will take a more balanced approach, given the flaws in the Rams’ run defense. On the other side, the Rams lean on their ground game. Colorado State will pound the rock and eat the clock, so I’m going with the under on the total. The Rams need to slow things down as much as possible if they want to satisfy the odds in this matchup. The under has hit in eight of their previous 10 home games.
