Indiana somehow outlasted Iowa
The No. 7 Indiana Hoosiers (5-0; 3-2 ATS; 3-2 O/U) started their 2025 campaign with an uninspiring 27-14 victory over Old Dominion. They followed it with three impressive wins against Kennesaw State 56-9, Indiana State 73-0, and then-No. 9 Illinois 63-10.

The first proper challenge for the Hoosiers came in Week 5, when they hit the road for the first time this season to meet Iowa. The Hoosiers outlasted the Hawkeyes 20-15, overcoming a three-point deficit in the fourth quarter.
Indiana outgained Iowa 337-284 in total yards and won the turnover battle 2-1. Junior QB Fernando Mendoza threw for 233 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception, while senior WR Elijah Sarratt posted seven catches for a whopping 156 yards and a touchdown.
“It was the good, the bad, and the ugly, and there was a lot of the bad and the ugly,” Indiana coach Curt Cignetti said. “We left a lot of plays out there, especially in the passing game.”
Indiana ranks fifth in the country in rushing yards (267.8 per game). However, the Hoosiers racked up just 104 yards on 39 carries against Iowa, and senior RB Roman Hemby led the way with 15 totes for 86 yards.
Hemby is still looking for his first touchdown in 2025. He’s amassed 427 yards from scrimmage, while wideouts Elijah Sarratt and Omar Cooper Jr. have accounted for six receiving touchdowns each. Mendoza has thrown for 1,208 yards, 16 touchdowns, and an interception so far this season.
Oregon edged Penn State in double overtime
The No. 3 Oregon Ducks (5-0; 4-1 ATS; 3-2 O/U) trounced Montana State 59-13 in their season opener. After a 69-3 dismantling of Oklahoma State in Week 2 and a 34-14 victory at Northwestern in Week 3, Oregon cruised past Oregon State 41-7 in Week 4.
The Ducks were properly tested in Week 5, when they visited then-No. 3 Penn State. Oregon blew a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter but ultimately outlasted the Nittany Lions 30-24 in a double-overtime thriller.
When we look at the box score, the Ducks fully deserved their victory over the Nittany Lions. Oregon outgained Penn State 424-276 in total yards and won the turnover battle 1-0. The Ducks rushed 39 times for 176 yards, while sophomore QB Dante Moore went 29-of-39 for 248 yards and three touchdowns.
“Unbelievable job of our guys keeping their composure,” Oregon coach Dan Lanning said. “We said this game's going to be about 1,000 cuts. Every cut matters, every cut matters. Eventually, we hit the jugular. That was it, right there. Our quarterback is an absolute all-star. Our team, special man, special.”
Moore has thrown for 1,210 yards, 14 touchdowns, and an interception so far this season. Running backs Jayden Limar and Dierre Hill Jr. have combined for 563 yards from scrimmage and six touchdowns, while freshman WR Dakorien Moore leads the receiving corps with 22 touches for 338 yards and three scores.
The Ducks tally 6.3 yards per carry, enough for the eighth-most in the country. They allow 3.4 yards per carry (tied for 34th in the country) and 114.8 rushing yards per game (38th). Their passing defense is one of the best in the nation and ranks third in yards allowed per game (123.4).
Indiana vs. Oregon Pick
Spread Pick for Indiana vs. Oregon
- Indiana +7.5 (5 units)
It’s hard to separate these two teams. I mentioned how good the Ducks’ defense has been thus far, and the Hoosiers’ defense has been outstanding, too. Indiana allows just 9.6 points per game (3rd in the country) on 88.0 rushing yards (17th) and 133.4 passing yards (7th). They’ve amassed 49 tackles for loss (2nd) and 16 sacks (tied for 8th).
Both teams have plenty of dangerous weapons on the offensive side of the ball as well. We will see a great battle in the trenches, and with 7.5 points on the table, I have to go with the Hoosiers. Their defensive line is good enough to disrupt the Ducks and put pressure on Dante Moore.
Over/Under Pick for Indiana vs. Oregon
- Under 55.5 (5 units)
The Hoosiers’ defensive line has been terrific so far this season. The Ducks’ numbers are not as shiny as the Hoosiers’, but don’t sleep on Oregon’s defense. Through the first five weeks of the season, the Ducks have only allowed six red-zone attempts to their rivals.
Only one team has allowed fewer red-zone attempts, and it is Indiana with three. Hereof, I will take the under on the total. The Hoosiers have to bring their best defense to Autzen Stadium if they want to beat the Ducks. Also, Indiana needs to control the clock and rush as much as possible.
