Wildcats looking for two straight wins
The Wildcats arrive in Lawrence after a big home win, 41-28, over TCU two weeks ago. The win improved Kansas to 2-2 in the Big 12 this season and was its second win in three games. The victory was particularly sweet after playing without two key players in rushing leader Dylan Edwards and sack leader Tobi Osunsanmi. The team is now 3-4 overall, three wins away from earning an automatic bowl invitation.
"We knew this was going to be a battle against a really good team," K-State head coach Chris Klieman said. "They have one of the best teams in the Big 12. The Big 12 is all over the place, as everybody knows. You have to play your best football every day."
Quarterback Avery Johnson led the way with three touchdown passes, including two to tight end Garrett Oakley. Johnson finished the game 16-of-26 passing for 198 yards. He also added 29 yards on 13 carries. His third touchdown went to Jerand Bradley. In all, the Wildcats finished with 348 yards of total offense. The Wildcats dominated time of possession, holding the ball for over 36 minutes in the game.

The Kansas State defense came up big in the game as well. Wesley Fair and Des Purnell both scored defensive touchdowns for the Wildcats to help support the win. Fair picked up a fumble and rumbled 15 yards for a score. Purnell had two interceptions in the game, the first time a K-State linebacker had two picks in a game in ten years, including a 25-yard return for a score. The Wildcats did allow 448 yards of total offense, although they did hold TCU to just 72 yards on the ground.
Kansas State is ranked 58th in the country in points per game. The Wildcats are 48th in rushing and 89th in passing. Jayhawks Rested and Ready to Get Back in the Win Column
Like the Wildcats, the Jayhawks come into this game off a bye week. Unlike K-State, however, the Jayhawks are coming off a disheartening loss, 42-17, in Lubbock, TX, two weeks ago. The loss dropped them to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the Big 12 conference. The Jayhawks are just two wins away from earning an automatic bid to a bowl game.
“We got to be better. We got to do a better job. We got to find a way to do a better job as a whole, all of us, and we will.” Head coach Lance Leipold said after the disappointing loss.
Kansas played from behind all night against a tough TCU team. They trailed 21-0 before reeling off 17 straight points. They did force a turnover, with Taylor Davis getting his first career interception to squelch one Texas Tech drive at midfield. Lyrick Rawls led the team with ten tackles, and Jalen Todd chipped in with seven. Leroy Harris III added to his team-leading sack total with a solo sack in the second quarter. He now has 4.5 on the season. Bangally Kamara came through with a career-high three tackles for loss, giving him eight for the season.

Point Spread pick for Kansas vs. Kansas State
- Kansas State +3.5 (4 units)
Kansas State has won each of the last 16 matchups between these two teams. This year, the difference will come in the red zone. Kansas State is tied for #1 in red zone offense, while the Jayhawks are just 110th in red zone offense. Defensively, the Wildcats are 33rd in red zone defense, while Kansas is just 124th in red zone defense. Kansas State should be able to run the ball against Kansas, ranked 48th in the country in rushing. The Jayhawks are ranked woefully 126th in the country in stopping the run. This one should be tight, but the difference in the red zone will be the key factor. I’ll happily take the points here.
Take Kansas State +3.5
