Liberty vs Kennesaw State Picks, Prediction, Odds, and Line Movement for Thursday October 22 2026

Liberty takes a five-game winning streak into Kennesaw State on Thursday, carrying the strongest two-way profile in Conference USA. The Flames are 5-1 and have scored at least 30 points in four straight outings, while their defense has routinely kept opponents away from the end zone. Kennesaw State's record looks poor at 1-5, but the Owls have played three one-possession games in a row and have reasons to believe they can be competitive again.

This is not a matchup in which the favorite can assume Kennesaw State will fold early. Two years ago, the Owls produced a major home upset over an unbeaten Liberty squad in the same series. More recently, Kennesaw lost to Arkansas State by three, Jacksonville State by one and Missouri State by three. The Owls understand how to play tight fourth quarters, but their difficulty closing those games is a concern against a Liberty team that has shown more consistent scoring and defensive execution.

Liberty vs Kennesaw State Matchup Preview

Quarterback Deshawn Purdie has given Liberty efficient, low-mistake passing. Purdie has thrown eight touchdowns without an interception, a notable counterweight to the risk of short-week road turnovers. Running back Kam Davis has averaged approximately 87 yards a game and better than seven yards a carry. Receiver Makai Jackson supplies the vertical threat, with 515 yards and five touchdowns on an average of more than 23 yards per reception. Those three players give Liberty the ability to attack an opponent in multiple ways rather than committing to a one-dimensional ground game.

Liberty's defense is an equally important part of the handicap. The Flames have shut opponents out in ten of their last sixteen quarters and prevented a touchdown in twelve of those sixteen. That makes a double-digit favorite more attractive than one dependent on winning a shootout. Disruptive defenders such as Brenton Williams and Derrell Farrar can force an opponent to methodically complete drives rather than collecting easy explosive plays. Liberty can take a second-half lead and still have a path to covering because of how few points it generally allows.

Kennesaw State has genuine offensive progress to show under quarterback Rickie Collins. The program reports that Collins has completed at least 60 percent of his passes on 20 or more attempts in each of his six games. He has thrown for 293 and 260 yards in his first two Conference USA starts, demonstrating that the passing game is not a desperation afterthought. Dylan Gary caught ten passes for 135 yards and a touchdown last week, while linebacker Tywon Christopher made 27 tackles over the last two games. Those contributions explain why Kennesaw has remained close even without winning.

The tension lies in finishing. Kennesaw State's receivers can move the ball against an average defense, but Liberty is not average in the red zone or on early downs. The Owls need to avoid settling for field goals when a touchdown is possible, and their defense cannot let Davis repeatedly reach the second level. Liberty's ability to rotate between rushing efficiency and Jackson's deep routes should eventually create separation if Kennesaw is forced to devote extra defenders to the box.

Liberty vs Kennesaw State Odds and Line Movement

Tuesday morning listings had Liberty -9.5 and a total of 49. Other published Thursday listings have moved Liberty toward -10.5 with a total around 49.5. That difference is meaningful because the favorite needs to win by two scores once the spread exceeds ten. We are willing to lay -10.5, but the number should not be chased upward indefinitely; at -11 or higher the risk of another Kennesaw backdoor becomes harder to justify.

There are reported availability questions among Liberty's tight ends and running backs, including a season-ending leg problem for one reserve back, while Kennesaw has had questionable designations at receiver and tight end. Those should be checked near kickoff rather than treated as confirmed absences beyond what has been reported. The strongest Liberty argument does not depend on any one questionable reserve; it is built on Purdie's ball security, the rushing production and the defense's ability to deny touchdowns.

Liberty vs Kennesaw State Best Bet

Best Bet: Liberty -10.5 (playable at Liberty -10.5 or better)

Liberty -10.5 or better is the preferred wager. The projected 34-17 win allows room for Collins to make plays and for Kennesaw State to compete for a half, while expecting Liberty's complete attack to win the second-half efficiency battle. A drop back to -9.5 would improve the entry, but a move to -11 would eliminate our preferred price. The Owls' recent close losses are a reason to respect them, not a reason to ignore the differences in team quality.

Liberty vs Kennesaw State Prediction

Prediction: Liberty 34, Kennesaw State 17
