Can Louisville bounce back on the big stage?
Louisville (4-1 SU, 1-4 ATS, and 3-2 O/U) is coming off a bye week. The Cardinals lost 30-27 in overtime on October 4, snapping their four-game winning streak.

Louisville was tripped up at home by Virginia, as the Cards were held to 2.0 yards per carry and lost the turnover battle 2-0. Louisville held the high-powered Cavaliers offense to 237 total yards, but it wasn't enough to win the defensive battle. The Cardinals found the end zone just once in the second half and overtime.
USC transfer QB Miller Moss leads the Louisville offense. The senior has completed 67 percent of his passes for 1,358 yards with seven touchdowns and four interceptions. Unfortunately, his interceptions have been disastrous as he's thrown pick-sixes in his last two games. His top receiving targets are senior WRs Chris Bell (35 receptions for 502 yards and four TDs) and Caullin Lacy (27 receptions for 287 yards). The Cardinals' run game is paced by sophomore RB Isaac Brown (46 carries for 334 yards and three TDs).
Louisville scores 36.0 points per game (29th) and averages 404.0 total yards (62nd), including 289.0 passing yards (21st) and 115.0 rushing yards (113th). The Cardinals' defense allows 21.0 points (47th) and 262.0 total yards (12th) per game, including 150.4 passing yards (8th) and 111.6 rushing yards (30th).
Louisville Cardinals Football Injury Report: No significant injuries to report for Friday's ACC clash with Miami, though Isaac Brown is dealing with a lower leg injury that has hampered him.
Miami looks like a national title contender
Miami (FL) (5-0 SU, 4-1 ATS, and 2-3 O/U) was off last week. The Hurricanes beat rival Florida State 28-22 on October 4, their first ACC win of the season.
Miami held off a late rally from FSU to remain undefeated. The Canes led 28-3 after three quarters, as senior QB Carson Beck tossed four touchdown passes, two apiece to freshman WR Malachi Toney and senior WR CJ Daniels. The U picked off Seminoles QB Tommy Castellanos twice and won the turnover battle 3-0. The victory gives Miami wins over in-state opponents in four straight games.
The Georgia transfer Beck leads the Hurricanes offense onto the gridiron with 1,213 passing yards (73.4% CMP%), 11 touchdowns, and three picks. His top receiving targets are Toney (29 receptions for 375 yards and three TDs) and Daniels (23 receptions for 269 yards and five scores). Miami utilizes junior RB Mark Fletcher Jr. (78 carries for 428 yards and five TDs) and sophomore RB CharMar Brown (57 carries for 225 yards and four TDs) in the run game. Freshman WR Malachi Toney is coming off a strong game, catching seven passes for 107 yards against Florida State two weeks ago.
Miami scores 35.0 points per game (35th) and averages 428.0 total yards (42nd), including 264.2 passing yards (40th) and 163.8 rushing yards (62nd). The Hurricanes' defense surrenders 13.6 points (9th) and 276.4 total yards (16th) per game, including 189.0 passing yards (35th) and 87.4 rushing yards (13th).
Miami (FL) Hurricanes Football Injury Report: DB Zechariah Poyser is questionable to play against Louisville.
Louisville vs. Miami Pick
Spread Pick for Louisville Cardinals vs. Miami Hurricanes
- Hurricanes -13.5 (4 Units)
Miami has impressed me this season, as Beck has elevated his play and looks to have reestablished himself as a collegiate star. His connection with the fantastic frosh Toney has been exciting to watch unfold, as well. The Hurricanes' run defense has also been superb, which will create offensive balance issues for a Louisville team that has struggled to move the football on the ground (3.8 yards per carry).
The Cards were off to a good start, but they have been unimpressive in ACC competition. They trailed 27-17 at halftime to Pitt, needing five costly turnovers by the Panthers to win, and were unable to rally to beat Virginia in their last game after falling behind by ten points late in the third quarter.
Miami needs to win, and win big, to solidify its status among the NCAAF elite. I anticipate that they'll do just that, covering the 13.5-point spread on Friday.
Over/Under Pick for Louisville vs. Miami
- Under 53 (5 Units)
Miami's defense has played consistently well. Florida State scored a bunch of garbage-time points last game, but the Hurricanes have otherwise held all of their opponents other than Notre Dame to 12 or fewer points. They rank in the top 15 nationally in scoring defense, run defense, third-down defense, and sacks. Louisville hasn't faced a unit as talented as Miami's, and will find it difficult to make this a competitive game.
The Hurricanes haven't pushed the envelope with comfortable leads this season, either. They'll control the clock (14th nationally in time of possession), running the football to put the game away. They have taken good care of the football (6th in turnovers), too.
