Memphis Tigers vs. ECU Pirates Picks and Prediction, Saturday, November 15, 2025
One of the more underrated matchups in college football this week takes place Saturday when the East Carolina Pirates host the Memphis Tigers in an American Athletic Conference showdown at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. Both teams have been strong offensively and come into this matchup still in the race for the conference title. Both teams can light up the scoreboard, and this game should provide plenty of fireworks.

Memphis is a small dog
The Memphis Tigers have been one of the most explosive scoring teams in the country this season. They rank 33rd nationally in total offense at 429.8 yards per game and 15th in scoring at 37.1 points per contest. The Tigers have shown great balance, ranking 31st in rushing offense and 57th in passing offense, and quarterback Brendon Lewis leads the way. He has thrown 12 touchdown passes with five interceptions and adds another dimension with his legs, rushing for 521 yards. It is also worth noting that on Oct. 18, Lewis completed 9 of 10 passes before he was knocked out of the game against UAB, which Memphis went on to lose 31-24. Running backs Sutton Smith and Greg Desrosiers have led the rushing attack, combining for over 1,000 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground.
Defensively, Memphis is middle of the pack. The Tigers rank 60th in total defense, giving up 357.9 yards per game. They’ve been stronger against the run (42nd) than the pass (87th) and allow 21.1 points per contest, which ranks 35th nationally. The Tigers own an impressive 32-31 win over Arkansas earlier in the season. Still, their defense struggled in a 38-32 loss to Tulane last week.
East Carolina is in a good position
ECU enters this week as one of five teams in the American with just one conference loss, along with Navy, South Florida, Tulane, and North Texas. The Pirates have caught fire lately, winning three straight games by double digits, 41-27 over Tulsa, 45-14 over Temple, and 48-22 over Charlotte.
East Carolina has been one of the most efficient and balanced offenses in the nation. The Pirates rank 14th nationally in total offense, averaging 467.7 yards per game, while also ranking 21st in passing and 33rd in rushing. They put up 33.9 points per game and can beat teams in multiple ways. Quarterback Katin Houser has been the steady hand behind the success, completing 66.5% of his passes with 14 touchdowns and five interceptions.
The ground game has been strong behind Landon Montgomery, who leads the team with 534 rushing yards.
Defensively, East Carolina has been just as impressive, ranking 15th in the nation in scoring defense, allowing only 17.3 points per game. The Pirates are 36th in total defense (326 yards allowed per game) and 19th against the run, though they’ve been more vulnerable through the air, ranking 69th in pass defense.
Memphis vs. ECU Predictions
ATS Picks for Memphis vs. ECU:
- Memphis ML +125 (4 units)
East Carolina has been hot, but this matchup feels like a coin flip. The Pirates have the home-field advantage, but Memphis rates out slightly better (#46) than ECU (#52) does according to the College Football Power Index. The Tigers’ losses have come in close games, and their offense with Lewis under center has proven capable of putting up points on anyone.
Getting Memphis as an underdog here provides solid value, especially considering their balance and ability to score quickly. Expect a back-and-forth game that stays close deep into the fourth quarter.
Total Picks for Memphis vs. ECU:
- Over 58.5 (4 units)
Both of these teams can light up the scoreboard, and neither defense is immune to giving up big plays. East Carolina averages nearly 34 points per game, while Memphis averages just over 37. The Tigers’ secondary has struggled against efficient passing attacks, and the Pirates are capable of exploiting that with Houser’s accuracy and experience. But Memphis can also attack East Carolina’s pass defense, and Lewis’ mobility gives them an additional edge when plays break down and drives stall. With ECU also seventh in the country in plays ran per second, I see this one ending somewhere in the mid-60s at least, if not higher.
