Hurricanes Trying to Hang in CFP Picture

Miami won their third straight game as they took care of business on the road against Virginia Tech last Saturday in their previous contest. Pitt Seeking to Pick Up Win in Regular Season Finale

Pitt bounced back from a loss to #9 Notre Dame by upending #16 Georgia Tech on the road last week. The Pirates improved to 8-3 overall and are tied for the top spot in the ACC with a 6-1 mark in conference play. Against Georgia Tech, Pitt bolted to a 21-0 lead after the opening quarter and led the rest of the way. The Panthers were up 28-0 in the second quarter and 28-14 at the half. They saw Georgia Tech get within 35-28 in the fourth quarter before securing the win on a touchdown with under three minutes to play. Pitt owned a 412-378 edge in total offense, recorded 22 first downs while allowing 21, and forced two turnovers, including a pick-six, while not committing any in the game. That made up for the narrow 30:25 to 29:35 disadvantage in time of possession in the contest.

This season, the Panthers are 18th in the nation in passing offense with an average of 281.6 yards per game, while they are 104th in rushing offense with 124.9 yards per contest. Pitt is 12th in the FBS in scoring offense with an average of 37.6 points per game, while they are 62nd in scoring defense by giving up 23.7 points a contest. Eli Holstein is 77 of 125 passing for 1,081 yards with 12 touchdowns against six interceptions. He is fifth on the team on the ground with 88 rushing yards plus a score. Miami vs. Pitt Prediction

Spread Pick for Miami vs. Pitt

  • Miami -6.5 (4 units)

While Pitt is in the mix for a potential spot in the ACC title game, the conference is so muddled that it’s tough to get an accurate read on anyone. This game is critical for Miami if they hope to have a shot at the CFP after getting tripped up by SMU back on November 1. The Hurricanes bounced back with a vengeance since that point, winning three straight by a combined 113-34 margin. Pitt bounced back from their loss to Notre Dame by upsetting Georgia Tech, though having a freshman quarterback against an experienced one like Beck is a tough sell. Pitt is at home, and the weather will be chilly, but Miami has too much at stake here. Take the Hurricanes to earn the victory in this contest.

Over/Under Pick for Miami vs. Pitt

  • Under 50.5 (4 units)

Miami comes in having seen the under post a 6-5 mark in their 11 games on the year. The Hurricanes stayed under the total in two of their three road contests this season, combining for 50 points to stay under the number of 54.5 in a six-point win over Florida State on October 4 and 46 points against a number of 50.5 in the loss to SMU. Their win over Virginia Tech saw the teams combine for 51 points against a number of 49.5 points. Pitt has gone over the number in seven of their 11 games on the year. The Panthers have gone over the mark in four of their six home games on the year. Miami is stingy on the defensive side of the ball, and that helps keep this game under the number.
