We have Big 10 action from College Park, Maryland on Saturday afternoon when Nebraska visits Maryland at 3:30pmET. Check out this Nebraska vs. Maryland prediction as both teams are 4-1 and 1-1 in conference play. Both teams were also coming off byes last week, with the Cornhuskers bouncing back to beat Michigan State (38-27) at home, while the Terps fell to Washington at home 24-20. These teams have not met since 2023, since Maryland edged Nebraska 13-10 on the road. If you are struggling to pick winners, you've come to the right place. We have the strongest College Football Picks.Β

Huskers start strong and finish strong against the Spartans

Nebraska opened the season with wins over Cincinnati (20-17) on the road, Akron (68-0) at home, and FCS Houston Christian (59-7) at home. Their first big home test came on Sept. 20 against Michigan. The Cornhuskers couldn't slow down Michigan's rushing attack (286 yards), but held the Wolverines to just 105 passing yards. Ultimately, they couldn't run the ball (43 yards) or stop the run, and fell 30-27. After a bye, they played a lesser opponent in Michigan State, but took advantage, winning by 11 last week. It wasn't pretty as the Spartans held the Huskers to just 261 yards of total offense. But Nebraska figured out a way in the fourth quarter, led by 17 unanswered points and got the win.

Quarterback Dominic Raiola was solid against Sparty, completing 16 of 24 for 194 yards with a TD and a pick. He was also sacked five times as the offensive line also allowed seven tackles for loss. Raiola is completing 74.2% of his passes for 1,331 yards with 12 TDs and just two picks. Emmett Johnson leads the rushing attack with 474 yards and seven TDs (5.6ypc). WR Jacory Barney Jr. leads with 23 catches for 348 yards and three TDs.

Nebraska's defense has been great against the pass, ranking first in the nation (91.8ypg), but it will be tested here. They can be run as shown by Michigan, allowing 155.6 yards per game (88th). On offense, they rank 30th in college football (449.4ypg) in total offense and 103rd in rushing yards per game (129.2ypg). The offense has been legit so far, not just against the likes of Akron. Putting up 27 points against Michigan and 38 against Michigan State is nothing to sneeze at.

On the injury front, they are banged up on both lines, but have very few key players out.

Terps blow 20-0 third-quarter lead, fall to Washington

It was all there for Maryland on Saturday. A win over the Huskies and you're headed to the Top 25 after starting the season 4-0 against mainly dreck (FAU, Towson, No. Illinois, Wisconsin).Β  Β Coming off a bye, they came out prepared to play their best opponent to date, Washington, last Saturday. But after jumping out to a 20-0 lead in the first half, the Terps scored on their first drive in the second half and fell apart late in the game to lose to the Huskies 24-20 before a sellout crowd in College Park. Defensively, the team fell apart, allowing 298 yards in the Huskies' final five drives.

Freshman quarterback Malik Washington (30-of-49, 219 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT) threw a short touchdown pass to AJ Syzmanski on the first drive of the season half and ran for a touchdown late in the first quarter. However, Maryland also settled for two short field goals that would ultimately prove costly. The Terps, like Nebraska, have struggled to run the ball against quality teams and that showed as they rushed for just 55 yards on 22 carries.

Washington (6-5, 231) has played about as well as you can expect for a highly regarded true freshman. He's completing 60.1% of his passes for 1,257 yards with nine TDs and two picks. Even with his size, he hasn't run a ton but does have three rushing touchdowns. Dejaun Williams leads the Terps with 209 yards rushing with one score, but is averaging just 3.5 yards per carry. WR Octavian Smith Jr. leads the team with 324 yards receiving (19 catches), while Jalil Farooq leads in catches with 25 for 233 yards.

Defensively, Maryland is allowing 318.4 yards per game (41st) and 221.6 passing yards (69th). They will certainly be tested by Raiolo and the Nebraska passing game. On offense, they are averaging 256.4 passing yards per game, but just 93.2 rushing yards (130th).

In terms of injuries, they have some issues with depth guys on both lines.

Washington vs. Maryland pick

Spread Pick for Washington vs. Maryland

  • Maryland +6.5 (4 units)

These two teams are pretty even. Both have quality young quarterbacks. Both struggle to run the football and have strong passing games. Maryland is at home after blowing a big lead to Washington and head coach Mike Locksley's main focus for the Terps was to finish games. Maryland should be able to get pressure on Raiola, considering the issues with Nebraska's offensive line. They've allowed 15 sacks and the Terps rank fourth in the nation with 3.8 sacks per game.

  • Over 48.5 (4 units)

Maryland has been more of an under team, but I don't see them completely stopping Raiola and that passing attack. Meanwhile, Nebraska is 4-1 Over, with their only under taking place against Cincinnati in the opener. Nebraska's defensive numbers are strong, but that's because they shut out Akron and shut down an FCS team in Houston Baptist. Teams can run the ball against them and I think Maryland will finally be able to get some headway with their ground game.
