Indiana’s defense also returns major production after ranking fourth nationally in total defense and second in scoring defense. Linebackers Isaiah Jones and Rolijah Hardy combined for 180 tackles, 15 sacks and 30 tackles for loss in 2025.

Key to the Game: Josh Hoover Against a Rebuilt North Texas Defense

Hoover gets an attractive first assignment as Indiana’s starting quarterback. North Texas could replace almost its entire defensive starting lineup, with the Mean Green relying heavily on transfers to rebuild every level. Hoover already has extensive college experience and joins an offense with proven protection and several receiving options. North Texas does have potential pass rushers in Udoka Ezeani and Davion Rhodes, but the new defensive group has little experience playing together. If Hoover avoids the interception problems that followed him at TCU, Indiana should create scoring chances throughout the afternoon.
