On Saturday, the Ohio State Buckeyes will face the Purdue Boilermakers at Ross-Ade Stadium in Week 11 NCAAF action. The Buckeyes are 29.5-point spread favorites, and the total is 48 points scored. The Big Ten Conference battle is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET.

This Ohio State vs. Purdue prediction highlights a Buckeyes squad that has rolled over its competition and a Boilermakers team that hasn't picked up a win since Week 2. Saturday's game marks the 60th all-time matchup between Ohio State and Purdue on the gridiron. OSU leads the series 42-15-2 and has won three straight games. The Buckeyes beat the Boilermakers 45-0 in Columbus last season.

OSU dominated the second half last weekend, outscoring PSU 21-0. The Buckeyes only led by three points at halftime, but scored on three of their first four possessions in the second half. They outgained the Nittany Lions 480-200, holding the visitors to 55 rushing yards and 1.8 yards per carry. Sophomore QB Julian Sayin was the star of the game, completing 20 of 23 passes for 316 yards (13.7 YPA) and four touchdowns.

“We came in at halftime and we were up by three — you would have thought we were down by 21, but I thought we responded well," Buckeyes coach Ryan Day said. “I thought some of Julian's deep balls were excellent. We saw how they were playing us in the first half, felt we had a chance to get behind them and called those plays.”

Sayin has passed for 2,188 yards with 23 touchdowns and just three interceptions this season. The Carlsbad, CA native's top receiving targets are sophomore WR Jeremiah Smith (55 receptions for 725 yards and nine TDs) and junior WR Carnell Tate (39 receptions for 711 yards and seven TDs). Freshman RB Bo Jackson paces the Buckeyes on the ground with 81 carries for 538 yards and two touchdowns.

Ohio State scores 36.6 points per game (20th) and averages 437.5 total yards (38th), including 284.3 passing yards (21st) and 153.3 rushing yards (74th). The Buckeyes' defense surrenders 6.9 points (1st) and 214.8 total yards (1st) per game, including 133.0 passing yards (3rd) and 81.8 rushing yards (6th).

Ohio State Buckeyes Football Injury Report: No significant injuries for Saturday's game vs Purdue.

Boilermakers gave Michigan all it could handle

Purdue (2-7 SU, 3-5-1 ATS, and 2-7 O/U) lost 21-16 to Michigan last Saturday, covering the spread as 21-point underdogs. The Boilermakers are tied for last place in the Big Ten with a 0-6 record in conference competition.

Purdue has lost seven straight, but it has lost by a touchdown or less in three of its last four games. The Boilermakers battled til the end at the Big House last Saturday, forcing two turnovers and winning the time of possession battle. They struggled offensively, however, as the Wolverines held them under 300 total yards. Purdue also came up short in key moments, including a failed fourth-and-two conversion from their own 49 in the fourth quarter.

“I was here to win the game,” Boilermakers coach Barry Odom said. “I thought we needed to find a way to get points out of that possession. We didn’t. We came up a couple inches short. Absolutely no regret on the play call.”

Sophomore QB Ryan Browne leads Purdue into action with 1,822 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and seven picks. His top receiving targets are senior WR Michael Jackson III (50 receptions for 456 yards and one TD) and sophomore WR Nitro Tuggle (24 receptions for 348 yards and four TDs). With leading rusher Devin Mockobee (125 carries for 521 yards and four TDs) out for the season, the Boilermakers will lean on senior RB Malachi Thomas (39 carries for 206 yards) and sophomore RB Antonio Harris (31 carries for 206 yards and two TDs).

Purdue scores 22.1 points per game (109th) and averages 375.3 total yards (78th), including 234.1 passing yards (71st) and 141.2 rushing yards (86th). The Boilermakers' defense allows 27.0 points (87th) and 395.0 total yards (92nd) per game, including 234.4 passing yards (86th) and 160.6 rushing yards (85th).

Ohio State vs. Purdue Pick and Preview

Spread Pick for Ohio State vs. Purdue

  • Boilermakers +28.5 (4 Units)

I lean towards Purdue's side against the spread because they're at home and showed some promise in their last game against Michigan. The Boilermakers have kept the score close in their last few games and did a good job slowing down the action last week. If they can hold onto the football for a good chunk of time in the first half, the Buckeyes won't cover the spread. I expect OSU to keep the ball on the ground, especially in the second half, which will reduce the total number of possessions in this game. As long as the home team can build a couple of long drives in the first half, they will keep the final score to four touchdowns or less.

Over/Under Pick for Ohio State vs. Purdue

  • Under 48 (5 Units)

The Buckeyes' defense will be the star of the show on Saturday. The unit is ranked first nationally in total defense, scoring defense, and red zone defense this season. The Boilermakers rank 76th in third-down conversion rate and 127th in red zone scoring percentage, and their leading rusher is out for the rest of the season. Enough said.

I also expect the Buckeyes to work on their ground game in this matchup. Ohio State ranks just 74th in rushing offense, which has been good enough with Sayin completing 80.7 percent of his passes. That's likely to change on Saturday, though, with 40-plus carries a near certainty for the first time this year. For you prop bettors, I would also consider OSU's running backs to find the end zone or take Sayin's under 2.5 touchdown prop, as the Boilermakers have allowed no more than two passing scores per game in 2025.

Ohio State will have its fun early and take its foot off the pedal in the second half, running the football and draining the game clock. Bet on the under!
