Can this season get any worse for Oklahoma State?
Oklahoma State (1-7 SU, 1-7 ATS, and 4-4 O/U) lost 42-0 to Texas Tech last week. The Pokes have only covered the spread once β as 21-point underdogs in a 45-27 loss to Baylor on September 27.

The Cowboys are still without a win since their Week 1 victory over UT Martin. They failed to score a point last weekend, as the Red Raiders held them to a combined 5-for-19 on third and fourth down and 182 total yards. Oklahoma State averaged 3.0 yards per rush and 2.8 yards per pass with two turnovers. Texas Tech scored 21 first-quarter points and coasted to the win after that.
βThereβs a lot of reasons why they can just quit, and theyβre not,β interim Oklahoma State coach Doug Meacham said. βIβm just so proud of them. We gave them 21 points. If we score a little bit without those three plays there, itβs a ballgame.β
Senior QB Sam Jackson V and junior QB Noah Walters split reps last week. Jackson, a receiver-turned-QB, has taken over the starting duties since October 11. He has completed 52 percent of his passes for 358 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Three Cowboys have at least 200 receiving yards, including starting RB Rodney Fields Jr., who has generated 635 total yards with two touchdowns.
Oklahoma State scores 14.5 points per game (132nd) and averages 295.4 total yards (129th), including 161.6 passing yards (123rd) and 133.8 rushing yards (95th). The Cowboys' defense allows 38.9 points (135th) and 456.5 total yards (129th) per game, including 293.0 passing yards (133rd) and 163.5 rushing yards (99th).
Oklahoma State Cowboys Football Injury Report:Β OL Noah McKinney, RB Rodney Fields Jr., and DE Jaleel Johnson are questionable to play against Kansas.
Jayhawks are reeling following two bad losses
Kansas (4-4 SU, 3-5 ATS, and 4-4 O/U) has been blown out in consecutive games, losing by the same score, 42-17, to Texas Tech and Kansas State.
KU suffered another embarrassing loss to rival KSU last week, its 17th straight loss in the Sunflower Showdown series. The Jayhawks scored first, but the Wildcats responded with three touchdowns to take a 21-7 first-quarter lead. Kansas State outgained Kansas 371-247, as the Jayhawks averaged 3.7 yards per pass and 2.8 yards per carry with four turnovers.
βI'm embarrassed right now,β Kansas coach Lance Leipold said. βWe need to play better than that. Frustration across the board is warranted and blame starts with the head coach.β
Senior QB Jalon Daniels leads the Kansas passing attack with 1,881 yards, 18 touchdowns, and three interceptions. He has also rushed for 243 yards and two scores. Daniels' top receiving targets are senior WR Emmanuel Henderson Jr. (34 receptions for 554 yards and four TDs), junior WR Cam Pickett (30 receptions for 349 yards and three TDs), and senior TE Boden Groen (27 receptions for 327 yards and three TDs). The KU ground game is headlined by senior RBs Leshon Williams (57 carries for 314 yards and five TDs) and Daniel Hishaw Jr. (62 carries for 298 yards and two TDs).
Kansas scores 30.5 points per game (57th) and averages 396.9 total yards (66th), including 247.5 passing yards (53rd) and 149.4 rushing yards (77th). The Jayhawks' defense surrenders 25.9 points (83rd) and 391.4 total yards (96th) per game, including 209.1 passing yards (51st) and 182.3 rushing yards (112th).
Kansas Jayhawks Football Injury Report:Β RB Leshon Williams is questionable to play against Oklahoma State.
Oklahoma State vs. Kansas Pick and Preview
Spread Pick for Oklahoma State vs. Kansas
- Jayhawks -24.5 (4 Units)
I wouldn't usually rush to bet on the Jayhawks to cover a 24.5-point spread after their last two performances, but I lean towards their side against a terrible Pokes team. Kansas' offense is capable of piling on the points, as Daniels has taken better care of the football this season and is a threat both through the air and on the ground. He has a wealth of talented receivers at his disposal and a reliable complementary rushing attack. Oklahoma State is allowing almost 40 points per game and ranks dead last nationally in opponent passing plays of 20-plus yards and 30-plus yards. The Cowboys have allowed the third-most passing plays of 40-plus yards, too.
Kansas can still gain bowl eligibility by winning its next two games against OSU and Arizona, as its last two matchups are against Iowa State and Utah. I believe the Jayhawks will dominate Saturday's game from start to finish, getting their mojo back after suffering discouraging losses to TTU and KSU. Back KU to cover the spread.
Over/Under Pick for Oklahoma State vs. Kansas
- Under 56.5 (5 Units)
Kansas won't have enough possessions to push the total to 57 points. The Jayhawks will score often in the first half, but as the Red Raiders did last week against OSU, they'll slow down the pace in the second half of a blowout game. The home team has done a fine job at controlling the time of possession this season, ranking just outside the top 5o nationally, and will lean on the run game after halftime to run down the clock.
On the other side of the ball, Kansas ranks 45th nationally in third-down defense, while OSU ranks 120th in third-down offense. The Cowboys will struggle to move the chains, wasting their opportunities with empty possessions. Oklahoma State didn't have a pulse offensively last week, and following five consecutive uncompetitive games, they won't have enough heart to play ball. Bet on the under!
