Oregon is coming off a dominant 13-1 campaign in 2024, while Oklahoma State looks to bounce back from a disappointing 3-9 finish. Both teams opened the 2025 season with wins, but the stakes are much higher this week as the Ducks aim to move up in the rankings and the Cowboys try to prove they belong on the big stage.

Oklahoma State opened with a win
Coming into the season, many experts projected the Cowboys to finish at the bottom of the Big 12. Veteran head coach Mike Gundy, now in his 21st season with a career record of 170-88, is tasked with proving those predictions wrong. Oklahoma State struggled last year, finishing 3-9 overall and 0-9 in conference play, while returning no starters on offense and only three on defense.
The Cowboys opened 2025 with a 27-7 victory over UT Martin. They outgained the Skyhawks 359-225 and controlled the game throughout. Two quarterbacks saw action, with freshman Zane Flores completing 13 of 20 passes for 136 yards, while TCU transfer Hauss Hejny went 5-for-10 for 96 yards and a touchdown. The ground game added balance, as Oklahoma State rushed for 127 yards and two touchdowns on 42 carries. Kalib Hicks led the way with 21 carries for 56 yards, while the defense held UT Martin to just one score.
How good can these Ducks be?
Oregon enters the season under head coach Dan Lanning, who has posted a 36-6 record beginning his fourth year at the helm. The Ducks are ranked No. 6 nationally despite returning only two starters on offense and four on defense. They went 13-1 last season, with the lone loss coming in a 41-21 Rose Bowl Quarterfinal defeat against Ohio State.
Replacing Dillon Gabriel is redshirt sophomore Dante Moore, a transfer from UCLA who saw limited action last season. In the season opener, Moore looked sharp, throwing for 213 yards and three touchdowns without an interception in a 59-13 rout of Montana State. He also added 18 rushing yards.
The Ducks’ rushing attack was equally impressive, racking up 253 yards and five touchdowns on just 30 carries. Freshman Jordon Davison made an immediate impact with three touchdowns on six carries, while Noah Whittington added 68 yards and a score on 10 attempts. The Ducks did not commit a turnover and completely controlled the game, outgaining Montana State 506-244.
Oklahoma State vs. Oregon pick
Spread pick for Oklahoma State vs. Oregon
- Oregon Ducks -27.5 (4 units)
Oregon’s 59-13 win over Montana State might be brushed aside as just a victory over an FCS opponent, but the Bobcats are not your typical FCS team. They went 15-1 last season, with their only loss coming in the National Championship game, a 35-32 defeat to North Dakota State. To compare, Oklahoma State also beat an FCS opponent in UT Martin, yet the Skyhawks are far less talented and actually lost to the Cowboys 49-17 just last year.
With two freshman quarterbacks who were underwhelming in the opener, and the Cowboys now missing Ollie Gordon, who had been a key piece of their offense at running back the last two seasons, this matchup has the potential to get out of hand quickly. Oklahoma State may carry the Power Four label, but there will be no sympathy from Oregon. Lay it with the Ducks.
- Total Pick: Under 55.5 (4 units)
It's tough to take an under when you have a team like Oregon that can put up close to 56 points on almost anybody. Still, I think that Oklahoma State will be lucky to crack t0 ten points. Ultimately, I think Gundy will try to slow this game down and limit Oregon's possessions. I don't love it, but I will take the under with Oregon winning 45-7.
