Oregon State struggles continue
Oregon State is 0-3 to start the season. It’s been tough sledding for the Beavers as they have struggled to find consistency on both sides of the ball. They spend the season with back-to-back home losses to Cal and Fresno State.
In their last game, the Beavers lost 45-14 to No. 21 Texas Tech on the road on Saturday, Sept. 13. Oregon State never had a chance as they trailed 45-0 mid-way through the fourth quarter. Starting quarterback Maalik Murphy threw for 281 yards completing 25-for-44 along with two touchdowns and two interceptions. The Beavers only rushed for 8 yards in the loss.
Murphy has completed 61.6% of his passes along with six touchdowns and five picks. His top target this season has been Trent Walker, who has caught 23 passes for 302 yards. Running back Anthony Hankerson is the top back with 190 total yards and one score.

On defense, the Beavers are led in tackles by linebacker Dexter Foster with 25 tackles. The Beavers have just two total sacks while also forcing just three turnovers.
“They threw the ball behind the line of scrimmage and got not only a first down, but a touchdown, and we had guys that weren't running to the ball that could have been a factor, and got the guy on the ground. So that was the biggest thing that we talked about,” Oregon State head coach Trent Bray said about the loss to Texas Tech. “You don't know when you're going to be the impact on the play. You have no idea. And so you got to chase the ball every single play, like you're going to be the factor and our success on that play. And so again, continuing to drill that into these guys heads. And because it wasn't something we'd seen. Against Fresno, we took a huge step forward, and how the physicality, the effort, and we kind of took a step back, which wasn't good to see."
The Beavers are scoring 18.7 points per game, ranking 118th. Oregon State is averaging 376.7 yards per game, ranking 81st in the country. They are the 22nd-ranked passing offense, throwing 305.7 yards per game. The Beavers are one of the worst rushing attacks with 71 yards per game on the ground.
On defense, the Beavers are allowing 38.3 points per game, ranking 129th. They are the 87th-ranked rush defense, giving up 146.7 yards per game on the ground. Oregon State is the 120th-ranked pass defense, allowing 277.7 yards through the ari.
Oregon State is 0-3 against the spread this season. They were 24-point underdogs on the road against Texas Tech as they failed to cover. The Beavers were 1-point favorites against Fresno State and failed to cover while also not covering as 2.5-point underdogs versus Cal. The over is 2-1 when Oregon State has played. The over is 2-0 when the total has been set at 50 points or less.

A lot of fans grew up either Ducks or Beavs, right? And even in our community in this state. So this game means a lot to a lot of people, and certainly means a lot to the people on our team.”

Oregon State vs Oregon Pick
Oregon State vs Oregon Spread Pick
- Oregon Ducks -35 (5 units)
Oregon continues to dominate this rivalry against the Beavers as they have won 14 of the last 17 Civil War games. The Beavers have played their best when they have been hosting the game, but that won’t be happening this week. With the Ducks playing hosts, Oregon will be in firm control throughout the game. The Beavers have been decimated by conference realignment and have struggled to find consistency over the past couple of years.
Last week, Oregon State was dominated by Texas Tech and Oregon will impose their will on its rivals, too. The Ducks throw and pass the ball well while Oregon State’s defense has been brutal. They are allowing over 38 points per game. The Beavers are a pass-first offense and haven’t found any success in running the ball. The Ducks' pass defense is top-tier, ranking 19th pass yards allowed. Oregon State won’t be able to move the ball and their defense won’t be able to stop this high-flying offense.
Take the Ducks to cover.Â
Oregon State vs Oregon Over/Under Pick
- Over 55 (5 units)
Oregon State’s defense has been leaking points. Against Group of 5 schools, they have allowed points and against big time programs, they can’t stop opposing teams from scoring. Oregon will enjoy this as they will give their home team a show. The Ducks are averaging 54 points per game this season. The over could hit simply because of their offense. But the Beavers should get some points on the board when Oregon starters are taken out. The over is 2-0 when the total has been set at 55 or more for Oregon.
Take the over on Saturday.Â
