Oregon State nearly pulled out the win last weekend
Oregon State (0-2 SU, 0-2 ATS, and 2-0 O/U) lost 34-15 to Cal in its season opener and was tripped up by Fresno State last week. The Beavers failed to cover as 2.5-point dogs against the Golden Bears and as one-point favorites against the Bulldogs. Will they be more competitive in Week 3?
OSU lost by nine at home last week, as a late pick-six sealed the deal for Fresno. The Beavers took a 27-26 lead with just over a minute remaining, but couldn't hold off the visitors. Oregon State outgained Fresno State 528-318 in total yards and dominated the time of possession by nearly 15 minutes.
Junior QB Maalik Murphy has passed for 615 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions. His top receiving targets are senior WR Trent Walker (16 receptions for 235 yards) and sophomore WR Taz Reddicks (12 receptions for 174 yards). Senior RB Anthony Hankerson (40 carries for 178 yards and one TD) paces the Beavers' ground game.
Oregon State scores 21.0 points per game (106th) and averages 420.5 total yards (57th), including 318.0 passing yards (19th) and 102.5 rushing yards (116th). The Beavers' defense surrenders 35.0 points (120th) and 337.0 total yards (78th) per game, including 177.5 passing yards (54th) and 159.5 rushing yards (98th).

Texas Tech has been a scoring machine this season
Texas Tech (2-0 SU, 1-1 ATS, and 2-0 O/U) rolled to wins over Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Kent State, scoring over 60 points in both games. The Red Raiders covered as 55-point favorites in Week 1 and failed to cover as 48.5-point favorites last week. Will they continue to pile up the points against Oregon State?
TTU dominated Kent, outgaining the visitors 601-229 in total yards. The Red Raiders averaged 9.8 yards per pass and 5.5 yards per rush. The Golden Flashes were a combined 3-for-17 on third and fourth down and committed two turnovers in the blowout loss.
Senior QB Behren Morton paces the Red Raiders with 459 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and zero picks. His top receiving options are junior WR Coy Eakin (six receptions for 106 yards and two TDs) and senior WR Reggie Virgil (nine receptions for 106 yards and three TDs). The Texas Tech run game is led by freshman RB Adam Hill (23 carries for 205 yards).
The Red Raiders score 64.5 points per game (2nd) and average 604.5 total yards (4th), including 342.5 passing yards (12th) and 262.0 rushing yards (14th). Texas Tech's defense allows 10.5 points (27th) and 202.0 total yards (8th) per game, including 144.0 passing yards (28th) and 58.0 rushing yards (13th).

Oregon State vs. Texas Tech Pick
Spread Pick for Oregon State vs. Texas Tech
- Oregon State +23.5 (5 Units)
The Beavers played better than the final score of last week's loss suggests. OSU had 30 first downs and was 10-of-17 on third down. Murphy is an established, reliable QB who may give the Red Raiders trouble. Their defense was also stout, holding their opponent to 1-for-8 on third down with an interception. Texas Tech hasn't been tested yet this season, and I'm not convinced they can cover this large spread. The Beavers have already been through some adversity and will keep the score closer than the spread suggests.
Over/Under Pick for Oregon State vs. Texas Tech
- Under 61.5 (5 Units)
Murphy is a good QB, but his Beavs offense hasn't put the ball in the end zone enough, settling for field goals. His three interceptions and three sacks are red flags, too. The Beavers lack a consistent run game, which puts a lot of the load on his shoulders. The Red Raiders' defensive players will be motivated to prove they're ready to make noise in conference play on Saturday. Texas Tech has been dominant against weak competition on offense, but I'm not convinced they'll continue to put up video game numbers against Oregon State. These teams will play competitively enough to prevent the total from getting up to 62.
