Sam Houston is a mess
The Sam Houston Bearkats went 10-3 in 2024 and lost their head coach, K.C. Keeler, who joined Temple. The Bearkats are still winless under Phil Longo, going 1-7 ATS in the process. Six of their eight games this season have gone over the total, mostly thanks to Sam Houston’s awful defense.

The Bearkats are dead last in the nation in scoring defense (40.9 points allowed per game). They rank 133rd in rushing yards allowed (214.0 per game) and 125th in passing yards allowed (266.0). No team has allowed more total yards than Sam Houston.
Last week, the Bearkats suffered a heavy 55-14 defeat at Louisiana Tech, failing to cover a 16.5-point spread. Sam Houston gave up a whopping 646 total yards to the Bulldogs, who had a 27-0 lead at halftime.
The Bearkats racked up 502 total yards last week. However, they went 4-for-15 on 3rd down and committed nine penalties for 65 yards. Senior RB Elijah Green led the way for the Bearkats with 10 carries for 191 yards and two touchdowns, while senior QB Hunter Watson threw for 193 yards and an interception.
Watson has tossed for 1,108 yards, five touchdowns, and four interceptions across seven games this season, while Green has amassed 411 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns through six appearances. The Bearkats score 16.6 points per game (129th in the nation) on 137.3 rushing yards (90th) and 183.3 passing yards (111th).
Oregon State eyes its third straight W
The Oregon State Beavers (2-7; 3-6 ATS; 5-4 O/U) are finally on the winning path. After dropping their first seven games in 2025, the Beavers beat Lafayette 45-13 as 21.5-point home favorites and Washington State 10-7 as 3.5-point home underdogs.
Last week, the Beavers were outgained by Washington State 271-184 in total yards, but Oregon State won the turnover battle 2-0 and committed six fewer penalties than the Cougars. Both teams struggled on 3rd down, going 3-for-25 combined.
Senior RB Anthony Hankerson was a key guy for Oregon State in Week 10. He tortured Washington State for 132 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries. Sophomore QB Gabarri Johnson went 10-of-15 for just 33 yards, while the Beavers’ defense posted six sacks, six tackles for loss, and two interceptions.
Junior QB Maalik Murphy completed two of his three passing attempts against Washington State, throwing for 27 yards. He’s tossed for 1,749 yards, nine touchdowns, and eight interceptions so far this season. Hankerson leads the way for Oregon State with 179 carries for 803 yards and seven touchdowns.
The Beavers score 19.9 points per game (tied for 117th in the country) on 132.8 rushing yards (96th) and 215.9 passing yards (87th). They allow 29.9 points in return (tied for 105th) on 149.8 rushing yards (74th) and 247.1 passing yards (107th).
Sam Houston vs. Oregon State Pick
Spread Pick for Sam Houston vs. Oregon State
- Oregon State -20.5 (5 units)
I don’t like this 20.5-point spread, but there’s no way I’m going to back the Bearkats, who have been an absolute disaster all season long. Sam Houston has allowed at least 35 points in each but one of its eight outings, and each of the Bearkats’ last three road losses has come by 27 or more points.
Keep your eyes on Anthony Hankerson, who should bully the Bearkats. Sam Houston just gave up 425 rushing yards to Louisiana Tech. The Bearkats allow 5.5 yards per carry and 2.8 rushing touchdowns per game.
I can only hope that Oregon State will pound the rock and continue to fight on the other side of the ball. The Beavers’ defense has done a great job over the last two games.
Over/Under Pick for Sam Houston vs. Oregon State
- Under 52.5 (5 units)
The Beavers are coming off a proper low-scoring affair, but it was expected, given Washington State’s style of play. Oregon State should be able to move the chains more frequently when Sam Houston comes to Reser Stadium.
I expect the Beavers to feed Anthony Hankerson and torture the Bearkats’ run defense. Even the Beavers’ passing offense could easily get things going in this matchup. However, the Bearkats could fail to score enough to push the total over the line.
The Beavers have only allowed 20 points over their last two outings, and four of their previous six games have seen fewer than 53 points in total. I will lean on their defense and take the under.
