South Carolina Seeking to Get Back in Win Column
South Carolina was drubbed soundly at home by Vanderbilt last week and hopes to get back on track on the road here. The Gamecocks dropped to 2-1 overall on the year and are 0-1 in SEC play on the year. Against Vanderbilt, South Carolina never led in the contest, giving up the final 24 points of the game over the final three quarters to break a 7-7 tie. The Gamecocks held a narrow 328-323 edge in total offense in the game while losing the first down battle 22-20, the time of possession battle by a 35:43 to 24:17 margin and committed four turnovers while forcing just one takeaway in the game. South Carolina also lost LaNorris Sellers with a head injury late in the second quarter. He is questionable for this contest.
The Gamecocks are 94th in the nation in passing offense with 193 yards a contest and 118th in rushing by averaging 110 yards per game. South Carolina is 97th in the FBS in scoring offense as they put up 23 points a game this season. The Gamecocks are 43rd in scoring defense as they allow 17.3 points per game. LaNorris Sellers is 29 of 45 passing for 431 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. He is third on the team with 45 rushing yards and a score. Luke Doty (18 of 28, 148 yards, INT, 20 rush yards) is the backup quarterback. Rahsul Faison leads the team with 27 carries for 135 yards plus a score. Oscar Adaway III (22 carries, 86 yards, TD) and Jawarn Howell (seven carries, 30 yards) are next in line. Nyck Harbor leads the team with seven catches for 165 yards and a score on the year. Donovan Murph (five receptions, 94 yards), Vandrevius Jacobs (six catches, 87 yards, TD), Brady Hunt (five grabs, 49 yards) and Jordan Dingle (three receptions, 43 yards) are other valuable targets in the passing game. William Joyce has hit all nine extra point attempts and two of three field goal attempts with a long of 49 on the year.
Tigers Looking to Remain Unbeaten
Missouri whipped Louisiana at home last week as they didn’t suffer a letdown after winning the Border War with Kansas the week prior. The Tigers improved to 3-0 on the year and look to begin conference play on a positive note. Against Louisiana, Missouri jumped in front 14-0 after the opening quarter and cruised from there. The Tigers were up 28-0 with 10:31 remaining in the first half and you could turn the lights out at that point. Missouri piled up a massive 606-121 edge in total offense, racked up 32 first downs while allowing four and dominated time of possession by a 42:51 to 17:09 margin to offset committing the game’s lone turnover.

The Tigers are 27th in the nation among the 136 FBS teams to take the field this season in passing offense with 284.7 yards per game on the year, while they are 5th in rushing offense with 302.3 yards per contest. Missouri is 8th in the FBS in scoring offense as they put up 51.7 points per game and the team stands 39th in scoring defense by limiting opposing teams to 15.7 points per contest. Beau Pribula is 68 of 89 passing for 791 yards with seven touchdowns and one interception while ranking fourth on the team with 76 rushing yards and three scores this season. Matt Zollers is five of five for 63 yards and a score as the backup. Ahmad Hardy leads the team with 57 carries for 462 yards and five touchdowns on the year. Jamal Roberts is next in line with 29 carries for 222 yards and a score. Kevin Coleman Jr. leads the team with 24 receptions for 258 yards and a score. South Carolina vs. Missouri Pick
Spread Pick for South Carolina vs. Missouri
- Missouri -10 (4 units)
There is so much in flux in this contest, and it centers around the status of Sellers. If he can’t go, South Carolina will struggle to put points on the board. Doty was okay in relief last week but failed to generate any points in the second half, turning a 14-7 deficit into a romp. Missouri has piled up plenty of points in its first three games, scoring at least 42 points in each of those contests. The Tigers are at home and they have plenty of firepower to lean on when it comes to getting in a shootout. Missouri is a tough defensive team and if the Gamecocks look like they did last week, that #11 ranking they had heading into the game with Vandy will be a fond memory. As it stands, back the Tigers as Pribula and company have another solid game.
Over/Under Pick for South Carolina vs. Missouri
- Under 48.5 (4 units)
Again, this is partially contingent on Sellers’ status for the game but the fact remains that the Gamecocks didn’t set the world on fire offensively when he was on the field. South Carolina scored only 24 points in their win over Virginia Tech and 38 against a FCS program in South Carolina State. All three of their games have stayed under the total for the year. On the flip side, Missouri has piled up points and posted three straight overs to start the year. With that said, the Tigers haven’t faced a defense as tough as the Gamecocks yet this season, so it won’t be another shootout like last season. Look for this game to wind up falling short of the number as a result.
