Stanford is Still Alive
The Stanford Cardinal are 2-2 in league play, but their only two losses came against teams that are undefeated in league play, and both of those games were on the road. They lost at Virginia and SMU, but were able to pick up wins over Florida State and Boston College to stay alive in conference play. This is their last ranked ACC opponent of the season, so they still have a chance to climb the ACC standings before the end of the season. In their most recent game, the Stanford defense stopped FSU at the goal line on the last play of the game to secure the win.
Stanford has some question marks at quarterback, as Ben Gulbranson left the game last week against Florida State with a knee injury and did not return. He is listed as questionable for this game, and the Stanford coaching staff hopes he can play as he leads the team with 1,535 passing yards with seven passing touchdowns. If Stanford is forced to go to their backup, Elijah Brown is their redshirt freshman who came in last week to go 6-12 passing for 71 yards and took care of the ball in the win over FSU. Micah Ford has been a strong back this season; he has 425 yards and three touchdowns through his sophomore season.
CJ Williams has been their top receiver this season. The 6'1 senior has 39 grabs for 465 yards and two touchdowns. Bryce Farrell is their over-the-middle receiver, the 5'10 senior has added another 389 yards and a touchdown. Through seven games, their defense has 14 sacks and just one interception. Their sack leader has been Clay Patterson, as the defensive lineman has three sacks as a 6'3, 280-pound senior.

Hurricanes Look to Bounce Back
The Miami Hurricanes were ranked as the 2nd team in the nation in the AP poll, but took a Friday night loss against Louisville and plummeted back to 9th in the rankings. The Hurricanes have taken down three ranked opponents already this season, defeating #6 Notre Dame, #18 South Florida, and Florida State, who was also ranked 18th at the time of their matchup. Last week against Louisville, Miami quarterback Carson Beck threw four interceptions in their first loss of the year.
Beck is their transfer quarterback who came over from Georgia. He won two National Championships with the Bulldogs and is now looking to lead the Hurricanes through another deep playoff run. Beck has been too turnover-prone this season, as he has thrown seven interceptions, but has still accounted for 11 passing touchdowns and 1,484 passing yards. Beck does not look to run, as he has only 26 rushing yards on the season. Mark Fletcher Jr. has been their top running back this season; he has 446 rushing yards to go with six touchdowns. His best game of the season was when he ran for 120 yards against USF in the win.
Malachi Toney has been the most explosive player on the team. The 5'11 freshman has great speed and leads the team with 510 receiving yards on the year. He has three touchdowns, with CJ Daniels acting as the bigger receiver at 6'2 with 343 yards and five touchdowns. The Miami defense has 13 sacks and five interceptions on the year, as Bryce Fitzgerald has made an impact in the secondary as a freshman with three interceptions to start his career.
Stanford vs. Miami Prediction and Picks
Spread pick for Stanford vs. Miami
- Stanford +29.5 (5 units)
This is far too many points. The Miami Hurricanes climbed the rankings because they were undefeated, but many prognosticators were voicing that they were not as strong as their ranking. Carson Beck is a good quarterback, but not a great one. He was originally slated to be a top draft pick, but over time, he has proven he cannot limit turnovers and continually push the ball down the field. Stanford beat Florida State last week and has not lost by 30 points all season. The Cardinal have questions with their quarterback, which means they will go into this game relying on their rushing attack, and will eat up as much clock as they can. This will not allow Miami to run up the score, and Stanford will cover.
Take Stanford with the points.
Over/Under Pick for Stanford vs. Miami
- Under 44.5 (4 units)
When the spread is tight, the over or under can go in either direction, but when the spread is this large, your game prediction comes into play. If Stanford is going to cover this number, that means their defense shows up, because if the Hurricanes put up 50-plus points, it will be a rout. Luckily for the Cardinal, Miami has not put up 50 yet all season, which means the Stanford defense will be strong enough to limit their scoring and help keep this one under the total. The uncertainty of Stanford's quarterback position is another vote for the under.
Take the under.
